Is a visit to the doctor necessary?

Hello everyone. I need the opinion of the educated people here on this forum. Last winter I fell flat on back while walking across my icy deck. I was in pain in the neck and upper back region, so I did not workout for about a week, and slowly eased back into my workouts. Well, Monday I did both of the pyramid workouts with heavy weights, and I did something to hurt myself. The "injury" is in the same vicinity of when I fell before. I have been taking ibubrofen, using a heating pad, etc., and am feeling fine except a slight discomfort in my neck (almost, but not as bad as, a crick in the neck). I REALLY want to start working out again, but I am a bit apprehensive. Would it be a wise thing to get a doctor to check me out? I hope I have explained myself well enough!

Thanks for any advice,
Teresa

Ohhh yes. Don't "mess" with pain in the back...especially after falling flat on your back. Maybe you should try a chiropractor. They can work wonders on your body. This is from my own experience after I fell on a wet marble floor in 1995. Pills could do nothing for me for months and then I went to a "recommended" chiropractor and to this day I am greatful to him for fixing my back.

Just my opinion. :+

Hello Teresa,

I would strongly recommend a visit to the doctor. Back in May I was diagnosed with DDD (degenerative disc disease)and thanks to my ortho spine specialist, physical therapy and this forum I am able to do my workouts with very little discomfort and pain free. I may be facing something else later on this year with my knee but the back is great! See a specialist, they will most likely do an MRI or CAT Scan to determine what level of damage (if any) you have in order to prescribe what form of treatment you will need. I had 5 different visits with back specialists until I found the right doctor and felt comfortable with his recommendations. Good luck Teresa and please let us know what transpires.

Take care,

Iris

I just wanted to thank you both for taking the time to give me advice. I haven't decided if I am going to see a doctor yet because I feel so much better that it almost seems unnecessary. I am going to talk to a nurse friend of mine, "listen to my body," and then decide.

Thanks again,
Teresa
