Injury question - input please?

I'm having a hard time figuring out if I have a muscle injury or joint/skeletal issue. Can you all help me?
I've had a chronic pain in the front of my thigh - hip flexor area - for 5-6 weeks. It's very sharp when I first stand up for about 5 steps, then eases some, but the pain remains constant. I have backed off doing step, and baby the injury big time. I do still walk lots and have never stayed off of it for more than 5-6 days. The pain never goes away. I would think a muscle issue would have healed by now. The pain does subside after I've done beginner step(no impact), but never goes away. I would expect the muscle to warm up enough to go away for a little while until the muscle gets cold again. I tried stretching gently after walking or step, but it hurts so I wonder if it's the joint that connects the leg to the front part of my hip bone.
What's confusing me is it really feels like the pain is where the leg connects to the front of my hip bone. It feels like in the joint, yet I feel pain down my hip flexor.
I've taken Ibuprofen and that helps, but I want to know what the problem is so I can get it fixed 100%.

Please help if you can.
And, thank you.

I agree with Shannon...I think it would be best if you got this diagnosed with a Physical Therapist or other Doctor...

This is something that has lasted more than a day or so, and includes a "sharp pain": it's definitely time to see a doctor in person rather than rely on the diagnostic skills of forum members. Don't wait any longer: some injuries can become chronic, or turn into something worse, if you just let them go.

yes please go see a doctor, like others have said. I read about a similar situation in a magazine article and it turned out the person had a cracked bone in the hip area. Only an x-ray is going to show if it's something like that or not.
