I'm itchin' to buy and need advice

So it hasn't been that long since I got my hardcores, but I want to complete my Cathe collection someday and I feel like making some progress toward that goal. However, I AM pregnant and so there's some DVDs I really want (e.g., Terminator) that probably wouldn't be so great for me right now. Here are some contenders (i.e., what I lack). What do you think?

CTX series
Rythmic Step/IMAX/MIC (although it's on backorder)
Basic Step/Body Fusion (not exciting but good for preg & postpartum?)
Power Hour/MIS/Body Max
Cardio Kicks/Circuit Max

Any advice?

Hi Sandra,

I love powerhour/MIS/Bodymax. I however want to order RS/imax/mic when it comes off backorder. Meantime I think you will like the one with mis and bodymax and powerhour. Just my 2 cents worth.

Congratulations!

I must admit it's been 24 years since I was pregnant, but at that time the advice was not to let your body temp rise as high as some of Cathe's workouts get us... just a thought you may want to research. I really love my CTX series - lots of variety. & when you get to about month 7, you probably don't want to do any straight crunches - pull to the sides only to avoid splitting your abs...
Stay fit, take a Lamaz (sp?)class, & labor & delivery will be a breeze!;-)

Interval workouts are not recommended for pregnant women. I think this would also count out MIC, Circuit Max. Not only will the high impact involved be terriffically uncomfortable once you get past the 5th month, you have to be wary of over heating and over-exerting yourself. Remember, it's not just your heart rate anymore and you cannot take the risk of high threshold aerobic work and all anaerobic work causing a lack of oxygen to the baby.

The basic Step/Body Fussuon may ne dull, but it will get your heart rate up when you have all those extra pounds to lug over the step. I also think RS, if you can get your hands on it, and ebay may be your best bet, will be safe throughout pregnancy, jst taking the breaks you need and stopping when you have had enough.

Weight training will only be limited by increasing bulk that could make squatting dificult later on. So, go ahead with PH and MIS, but not Body MAx please! This is one of Cathe's most intense w/o's even when you aren't pregnant!

I went through 2 pregnancies and did nothing but power walk and swim laps (a mile aat a time) throughout. I was thoroughly worked out and certainly did not want more impact. I was in good shape, had an easy time of labour and birth, so you see, perhaps you do not need to be gung-ho about exercise while pregnant.

I bought the Basic Step/Body Fusion DVD recently and have done both workouts. I am not a beginner exerciser but I AM a step klutz, so that was why I wanted these workouts. I will tell you that I really worked up a sweat with both because you can adjust the intensity with the size of your step (the moves are pretty basic so you can use a higher step)... however, if you are an IMAX goddess, it may be very boring for you.

I also bought the Cardio Hits DVD and I LOVE this one! It is great if you are not that proficient at stepping, or if you need a workout that is not so demanding as the IMAXes...

Good luck! I love buying Cathe stuff!

Cheers,
Marie

Terri - This question wasn't asked by me, but by another of the Cathe Fit Moms. There's a large bunch of us on the Fit Moms forum, and there's going to be quite a baby boom in September :)

Monica - I have all these workouts, and the ones that I'm still using, in my 29th week, are All-Step, Step & Intervals, Leaner Legs, CTX Upper Body Split (all from the CTX series), Rhythmic Step, the step portion only of MIC, Power Hour, and the step portion only of Body Max.

I take out much of the impact from the workouts now, and don't do any floor hi/low aerobics. I used the Basic Step/Body Fusion dvd a bit when I came off my 9 weeks of doctor-ordered bed rest. Basic Step quickly felt too light, then, but I'm now at the point of thinking it might come in handy in another month. Body Fusion is a bit more intense than Basic Step, and I use it a bit more. Basic step has zero impact in it; Body Fusion has a bit of impact throughout (easily modifiable, though).

Cardio Kicks and Circuit Max I don't use at all due to the high impact nature of the floor aerobics in both of them.

Hope this helps,
Sandra
