Wondering about heart rate monitors and how many use them and what type they have. I had the wrist monitor (by Mio, I think), anyway, it never worked as a hrm so I just used it as a watch, then it completely broke! Thinking about getting a Polar model, as they seem to get pretty good reveiws.

I ran across this Body Age calculator on their web site, thought it was interesting.

For those of you that use HRM, what brand do you have or recommend? Also, do you feel it really helps with workouts, tracking fitness gains, progress, etc?

Hi Edie...I have 3 Polar HR monitors at this time! I started using them about 10-12 years ago mainly for running. I read 2 books by Sally Edward (s) she is a triathlete and the books had alot of good info in them. I do speed work mainly by my HR so I find it tough now not to run without one. I also use them in my Cathe workouts too. Yes I do beleive they are very effective tools for workouts....:)...Carole

Carole,
If I may ask you, where did you purchase your HRM? When I am finally mobile again, I'd sure like to get one. Which model do you recommend out of the 3 that you have?

Thanks,
Rhonda

Hi Rhonda...I think bought all of mine thru www.roadrunnersports.com, but if I was in the market I'd look at Polar and find the one I wanted then search for the best price! The one I use the most they don't make anymore. Its is an AccurexII, it has a stopwatch and 50 lap counter and tells you what the time is spent in 3 of the HR zones and also your average heart rate per run. I also have the S120 and it is similar to the one I use. The other one is the M21 and I got that one mainly for other cardio than running. It shows how many calories you burn. The reason I have 3 is in case one dies right before a major running event, then I always have a back-up...:)...Carole
