Hi Everyone,
I know we are not supposed to worry or focus too much on the weight issue, but here is my situation I am 13 weeks and have gained 15 pounds already I am not overloading on junk food or eating excessively, however I am in love with carbs and fruits
Is this normal can some people gain it all at first and then it taper off later or am I looking toward a very big weight gain.
I know the guidelines but at this rate i will have gained 70 pounds by the time I'm done.
Any advice is greatly appreciatted
Marisol
P.S I have had a weight problem until 4 years ago and I lost 90 pounds and have kept it off until now because of the pregnancy

Unless your doctor tells you that your gaining weight too quickly, I wouldn't worry about it. I gained 10 pounds in the first trimester even though I couldn't eat anything (I think there were about 4 extra pounds in each boob!). My doc said that a lot of times it's just that the things you can eat during the first trimester tend to be those that can cause water retention in some people (e.g., carbs). After I got past the first 12 weeks or so, my weight gain evened out. I gained a total of 30 pounds (well, to be truthful, I topped out at 34 pounds, but lost 4 in the last two weeks before delivery), which is right in the middle of the recommended guidelines, and I gained about roughly 10 pounds each trimester. One year later, I actually weigh a few pounds less than I did pre-pregnancy.

I truly believe that assuming you don't go hog wild and toss all caution to the wind, your body has its own wisdom and will gain the amount of weight it's going to gain. I don't mean to sound fatalistic, but I know that even though my eating patterns were consistent throughout the second and third trimester, some months I gained half a pound or nothing at all and others (well, one other) I put on 8 pounds in one month(!).

If you keep working out and trying as best as possible to eat well most of the time (notice I said most of the time -- if you can't splurge on ice cream every now and then while your pregnant, you're not living!) :), then you should be fine.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I agree with Hazel!

As long as your doctor doesn't show concern, I think you'll be fine. I know, I know, it's hard not to worry about the weight gain, but just try to concentrate on doing healthy things for your little one and you'll be fine.

Just a fews little suggestions, for what they're worth...take 'em or leave 'em.

One of my problems is snacking after dinner. So, I'll fill a one liter bottle of water to drink during my meal and MUST finish it before I can even consider a treat. More often than not, my tummy is waaaaay too full to even want a snack.

When I come home from work, I always need to go directly the bathroom to pee, so I'll put my workout outfit in there so that I immediately change and start my workout. It's SOOOOO much easier to get it underway than it is to get started AFTER I've gotten comfy on the couch, read the mail and spent some time with my hubby.

One last thing...I usually pick just one day a week where I allow myself to splurge on something heavenly. After that, I figure it's a week until I can do it again.

I hope this stuff helps.
