How do you find shoes that fit?

I'm not having too much success with my New Balances. They are for wide feet but I don't feel too supported.

I hate having to spend all the amoney when i don't know how the shoes are going to fit after I break them in.

Does anyone have feet like mine? Wide feet with short toes and orthotics for fallen arches.

Those describe my feet exactly. I just bought a new pair of New Balances. They say 609 on the back and are crosstrainers, but for years and years, I ended up buying Asics. Most of my athletic shoes are Asics. They just fit my foot so well.

I get my running shoes at Fleet Feet and I got the crosstrainers at D!ck's. My shoes never "change". If they fit comfortably in the store, they never cease being comfortable after I use them awhile.

I've used those too. They don't grip my ankles the way i would like. Maybe I need to switch to a half high top style.

I go the shoe store and try on a million pairs. I jump, I lunge, I squat, and everyone looks at me like I have three heads. But if I'm going to spend a lot of money on workout shoes, I want them to perform! After a few years of bad shoes, I finally settled on running shoes. I don't get heel pain or plantar fascitis when I use good running shoes. My last two pairs have been Saucony Triumphs. I use them for step and weight training and have had very happy feet! I know a lot of people think that running shoes do not give good lateral support, but they work for me. None of the so called "cross-training" shoes gave me much support. Just my .02!

I would go and try on pairs and "test drive" them before buying.

Personally, I wear Ryka's. Ryka's are design specifically for women's feet. I just got a new pair of Ryka's current aerobic shoes, the Rhythm and I love them. I have been wearing Ryka's for a couple of years now and these are the best fitting pair I've had so far. The toe box is even wider than previous models, has great arch support and has an extra lace that goes around behind the heel that you can tighten up as you like for ankle support. That said, they do run about 1/2 to 1 size small, so get a bigger size than you normally wear. My husband saw them the other night and knows the price tag and said that he's glad I'm spending the money to buy good shoes so I don't ruin my feet.

Try them, you might like them. If not, no big deal, as you can see, different brands work for different people. As long as you're comfortable and working out, that's all that matters!

Great advice. I tried something new this morning. I laced my shoes up super tight. I think maybe some of the pain is from my feet shifting in the shoe. My feet cramp up trying to stop all the movement.

I was able to do more. Still some discomfort, but at least i could get through the workout.

The worst moments are when I'm doing static lunges and the back foot is resting on the ball of the foot. It can start to burn!

Thanks for all your help.
