I just read your post about clothing sizes in another thread and I have the exact same problem. I used to wear a 1 or 3 and now am a 0 and often times even that is too big - Grrrr! I have to shop in the junior depts so, at 37, I also have a hard time finding "age appropriate" office attire. I will pass on, if you're interested, that Victoria's Secret catalog has excellent fitting clothes and almost everything they sell comes in XS and 0. I've gotten some nice office pants from them and a great suit. They also have these fabulous jeans in size 0 called "the sexy jeans" that fit awesome(a little pricey but well worth it) and XS yoga shorts that are great for working out. Esprit also has nice fitting size 0s, again pricey but I've resigned myself to spending more (hmmm, since they use less material you'd think the clothes would cost less). Anyway, just thought I'd share. If you come across any catalogs or websites for us small gals, please share. I love fashion but I swear, shopping for clothes that fit is like finding a needle in a haystack.

BTW, I too get tired of people rolling their eyes with that "oh puhleeze" expression when I complain about this problem!

RE: Hey Lorax!

Thank you for your response! I tried to go onto Victoria's Secret's website and found a big load o' nothin' in terms of clothing sizes.

Should I call and request the paper catalog? Do you get more info from there?

And yeah, we're an embattled minority! You'll notice how my responsive post on the earlier thread was met with thundering silence. It's strange - I've labored so long, hard and smart to lose a lot of excess storage fat, get strong, and finally, FINALLY just stop WORRYING about the whole issue . . . and then a whole 'nother set of issues replace them!

If you learn of any other clothing retailers, especially catalog retailers, that consistently offer our size, lemme know! I'll do the same for you!

RE: Hey Lorax!

It's really such a shame that in 2002 we still struggle with the simplest issues as women! Although I don't know what it is like to not find clothing due to being smaller than the clothing offered, I do know what it is to not be able to find clothing that fits. At my highest weights, the issues weren't fit as much as style. Yes I was big, but I still wanted to look nice, not matronly. You see some plus size women on television wearing really good looking outfits, but clearly they aren't buying them from Lane Bryant or Roamans like I was buying my clothes. And now to know that there are issues at the other side of the spectrum is pretty depressing. So basically, it seems you pay a price if you allow yourself to be overweight, but you also pay a price for getting your body as fit and taut as it can get! This is so sad!
but yes Annette, you should contact Victoria Secrets for their paper catalog. My daughter gets it and I'm almost positive they have xs listed on everything from lingerie to clothing. Also, I'm not sure about Newport News, but you could check them as well.
If I ever come across anything in my surfing, I'll keep you both in mind. :)
I hope to one day have this same dilemma! :)

RE: Hey Lorax!

Hi Annette!

Embattled minority - it's true! The reason I posted separately about the clothes is that for some reason I feel guilty talking about having small size problems when I know so many people here struggle with their weight and I don't want to irritate or upset anyone, especially if they're already depressed about it.

Definitely order a Vic's catalogs, there is usually a bigger selection and more specials than online. I'm a huge fan of their stuff because it just fits me really well. In addition to having everything in XS and 0 they also carry almost all pants in 3 lenghts, the petite inseam is 29 to 29 1/2. I have ordered some pants in size 0 that only came in 33" inseam and just hemmed them up. The customer service is outstanding. I just bought 3 pairs of the yoga shorts to work out in which I love. If you check into the jeans I mentioned I will tell you that they describe them as "very fitted" so I ordered a 2 but they weren't that fitted so I exchanged them for a 0. The best fitting jeans I own! The Body by Victoria line of bras and panties is also really, really comfortable and durable. I even bought a winter coat from them. Geez, I sound like a Vic's sales rep!

Another pain in the butt for me is that I can't wear petites because the sleeves are too short and the inseams are usually 28 which is too short. I remember reading a post from Cathe in which she mentioned having a short torso and longer inseam - same as me. Maybe we should ask her where she buys non-workout clothes (when she's not pregnant of course! :) )

I'll keep my eyes peeled for catalogs and would definitely be interested if you come across anything.

Happy shopping!

Hi Donna!

You're posts are always so inspirational and funny and I just admire you're attitude. A size 14 from a 30 is a HUGE accomplishment. Don't forget genetics play a huge role in things. My whole family is small. I hope you will be splurging on some some new, stylish, hip outfits as a treat for all your hard work and dedication! :)

RE: Hey Donna!

Thanks for your comments! Yes it is sad that no matter what you do, you pay a price for it. I remember literally years of relentless ridicule and criticism, usually from "loved ones" for my extra body fat (and usually these loved ones were carting around a fair amount of extra themselves), and then over the past decade plus slowly but surely getting lean and fit the right way - not through whacked diets (i hate you dr. robert atkins) and not through bulemia tactics and not through starvation, but through steady, consistent, increasingly sophisticated and intense exercise. And now . . . "You're too thin!" either with a laugh or with a wince, but it's the flip side of the same coin.

This may indeed be your future too, Donna, if you stick with your program the way you have so far. Be prepared for a lot of people, close and casual, to continue to behave as if your body size is their business rather than yours. You've already experienced a fair amount of that already, if I recall some of your earlier posts correctly. Be prepared for a new set of challenges that come with having met your initial goals and now become maintenance and refinement rather that "shrinkage". It's a lot more complicated. And be prepared for being a never-ending object of envy . . . which ain't nearly as much fun as it's cracked up to be.

That being said, keep on keepin' on! And give some thought to doing some serious, academic study of the science of exercise physiology, anatomy, biomechanics and kinesiology, and nutrition - the more you know about the "whys" the more you will be able do apply the "whats".

Sorry for the sermon. Obviously the PMS hormone gusher hasn't abated.
