Hi,

Any computer savy people out there that can help?

I used to play all of the DVD clips on Windows Media Player with no problems... I did have problems (and still do) trying to play the clips from the last series. I tried to download the newest player suggested by SNM..which I could not do with my virus software. Now I can;t play any of the clips from the older DVDs! x( The screen comes up but there is an error saying it is not connecting to Media Player network. I have Medial Flash Player version 9 with a few updates on my PC.. not sure how to get this to work... uninstall and re-install version 9? I tried and got the scary message: if you uninstall this other programs may not work! yikes! I stopped there.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

Deb

What operating system are you running? Windows XP, Vista, 2000, etc?

First, try disabling your virus software before you try to download and install the media player. Virus scanners are a pain in the butt when you're trying to download and install software. As are firewalls - so if you have firewall software, disable it too. Try this, and if it doesn't work, we'll try something else...

Hi,

I have Windows 2000. I have Norton Go Back and a firewall ( Belkin). What is really weird is that I had Media Player on my PC or a while and this just happened when I tried to download that new player that SNM said to get to view the newer clips. When I tried to turn off Norton, it said that I would lose everything that it had stored for the "go back" function.. that worried me a bit, so I tried the option that said "try new softwear" option, and got an error that I did not have enough memory to use that funcitionx( . Not sure why it all worked fine until trying that new player download ( which I never got, and the new, new clips play fine now! It's all the older ones that won;t play at all!

Thanks so much for responding
Deb

I don't know how much damage the "Go Back" or other steps have done at this point. I've never been impressed with Norton anything.

The original problem sounds like the "file associations" (what program runs what file extension) got changed when you tried to load the new media player. This would have been easy to fix.

Opt to save the clip instead of open it. Once it's downloaded, instead of double left clicking, you right click and then use the "Open with" option. A pop up comes up and lists the possible programs, you check the box that says "always use this program" the select the program to launch the file. You can still try it.

Hi,

I have never used the Go Back function of Norton.
Here is what comes up when I try to launch the clips for the older DVD's: The media player window comes up and this appears right over it. Not sure how the Media Player got changed..

Dave: you say it would have been easy to fix... if ? Do you think I should ignore the warning and uninstall Media Flash Player and all it's "fixs" and re-install it?

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the server is not responding. If you entered a URL or path to play the file, verify that it is correct. If you clicked a link to play the file, the link may not be valid.

Media Player and Flash are two separate products from two different companies. I'm getting confused as you are mixing the names.

I am answering this question with the following assumption: you are running Win2000 with Windows Media Player 9.

Can you run any videos at all? There are already other posts about the older video clips suddenly not running and SNM is checking on it.

If you want to reload media player, I would go to Microsoft.com and check the availability of Media Player for Win2000. If it's still available, I would got to the computers Control Panel> Add/Delete Software and remove the current Media Player, so you make sure to get a clean download. After deletion, reboot the computer before downloading a new version of the media player. Then download the new program. "Are you sure you want to delete this program because something else might not work..." is a standard question on deleting a program, Windows is just warning you that anything with a .wma, .wmv extension isn't going to work. If you download Media Player again you will get all of the patches.

If it's just the older clips, check out the other posts and wait and see what the webmaster finds.

Hi,

Thank you for your time and patience!
Yes, your assumption is correct, I have Win2000 and had Media Player version 9 with updates. I un-installed all of it, re-booted, re-installed from the download site, re-booted. I still get the same message as above when I try to play a clip from one of the older DVD's ( not the latest series). I am perplexed as to why I used to be able to play all of the old ones, and not the last series, now I can only play the soon to be released from the Home Page.

Deb, lots of us are having problems viewing the older clips on media player. SNM is looking into it. Apparently it has something to do with the latest version -- 11.0.

Michelle, Deb

This may be different or it may be the same let me explain.

Deb can't run the latest clip because she is not running MP 11, it's not available for Win2000. But SNM is guessing the older clips aren't running because of MP 11. There may be nothing wrong with Debs computer. Or Microsoft made a patch for all MP products and killed everything. Why I love Windows.

Is anyone else having problem with the clips with older software? All my Windows computers have MP11. My linux ones of course don't run MP so there's no use checking.

Any Lurkers out out there able to run the clips on Win2000, ME or 98? Inquiring minds want to know.
