Has this ever happened to you...

I am not a big advocate of weighing yourself all the time but I do think that you should every so often to monitior.
WELL.....

I got on the scale today and I am 9 pounds heavier than I was in Mid November.

Now I know that this is not all fat weight. I feel like I am holding water and I beefed up my workouts last week. I know that muscles swell. Too, I have been watching my diet pretty good.

Have any of you experienced this? I am trying not to freak out and use my head. I guess I just need some affirmation

Yes, don't panic. It really is better to rely on what you see and how your clothes fit. I gain weight when I work out hard. My muscles seem to get puffy. I lose weight on vacation. (I know this from how I look not from weighing.) I probably weigh myself twice a month. I just use it to track trends over time, and to "check" my gut feeling occasionally.

Don't worry about it. If I can wear my tiny jeans, I don't care how much I weigh. If my butt blubber is minimal, who cares how much I weigh?

You're right, since you are working hard, you're body's holding water. I didn't realize how much water a body could hold from weight training until I took Christmas week off and lost 3 pounds afterwards. In just a week. Even though I indulged and stuffed my face all week long. I had been weight training really heavy for many weeks before that and did very little cardio.

I always go with how my clothes feel. If something doesn't feel right, especially around my waist or hips, I know it's time to up the cardio and maybe mix it up with weights. Do some circuit training, which I'm not a fan of. :)

Maybe you also gained more muscle than you think.

Ditto for me too!

I always gain weight when I am doing a heavy lifting strength rotation. Esp. after doing weight training on lower body!

From what I have read, it means your body is retaining water to help repair the muscle tears that occur during the lifting. Its part of the healing process that happens when you build muscle.

I understand the part about trying not to freak out though!! I try hard to not be a "scale monger" too.

But it sure sounds like you are doing everything right... give it a little time and I bet you will see that number go down.

Good luck, Lynn M.
