Hand held bodyfat indicators

Okay, can someone mention again what the main difference is between the handheld bodyfat monitors and the bodyfat scale monitors? I thought you were supposed to be able to get a slightly more accurate reading with the handheld? Only I get a higher reading with my handheld than I do with my scale? My handheld is not an Omron which I know lots of people have and my scale is a Tanita, which seems consistent enough. Do you think I just have a cheap handheld model? I appreciate any comments.

I don't use mine anymore. I have a Omron and I also have the accu measure. I am digusted with my Omron. I don't understand it. Says 13% one day and then 15% next day. I give up! I mean 2% difference is huge so the only way to know for sure what your body fat is is the under water method in my opinion. Anyhoo, Omron is on a shelf collecting dust now. ;)

Maybe I need to get a digital caliper and forget the tanita and the hand held device? It's really difficult for the average person to get an accurate reading, you just kind of have to gauge it with what you've got.

I love my digital caliper. The Fat Track Gold. I bought it from www.heartratemonitorsusa.com

You will need help getting the tricep reading. It requires a 3 site pinch...tricep, ab, and thigh. I like that because I can track each site and watch to make sure nothing is getting "thicker".

I don't know the difference, but I have an Omron handheld and a Tanita scale.
My hand-held is at least a few % points higher. Both are set to "athlete" mode.
I may be fooling myself, but I really want to believe my scale!! I mean, really....

You know the caliper is one thing I haven't tried. Knowing my bodyfat is not the end all to be all. What really helps is me being able to look in the mirror and see how my body looks and how things fit, with that said, it still is nice to know where I fall under the current"fit standards". Also the more you workout the more you learn just how important bodyfat percentage is as opposed to just being thin. Thanks, I'll check out that website. Oh and my handheld bodyfat monitor doesn't even have an athletic setting :.( Maybe that's part of the problem.
