So i am happily doing my gym styles. But my weights are pretty low. from 5lbs to 10! And i am shaking and sweating. I find when i am doing triceps crossbody with 5lbs i am shaking and at one point cant get the weight back up lol. I feel like these weights work for me but i had some girl next to me with 15! AM i cheating? OR just a wimp? These work outs are not easy and i def feel it!

Lift the weights that challenge YOU! Don't worry about what the gal next to you is doing. If you keep at it, you will eventually need to increase your weights because you will get stronger so no worries! :)

You're not either cheater or wimp, (unless You think you are) ;)

If you want some more workouts to make you feel extra wimpy, do STS Total Body & High Reps, could not believe how light I went on these and Still got a great workout. That's what matters, getting a good workout, unless of course you Have to lift a certain amount for the ol' Ego, it's all good.

:)

What they said :D.

Sounds like the weights you are using are a challenge for YOU, and that is all that matters.

Agree with all of the above!!! Do what's best for your body today. I empathize with how you feel though. I often get discouraged when i'm lifting 1/2 or 1/3 of what Cathe or another instructor is lifting. BUT, then I remember i'm doing the best I can with the weight I can today and, if I keep challenging myself I WILL get stronger!!! :p Fitness is a journey, enjoy the ride! :)

Fitness is a journey, enjoy the ride! :)

Love this statement!

I was only going to add that I am sure we have all been there and while it is human nature to compare yourself to another person, you have to remember we all start where we start and build from there.

I typically use about half of what Cathe is using and evetually I will get to a heavier weight. What's so funny is that right now my challenge is is using the same weight I normally lift on days when I don't particularly have the energy. That for me is a challenge and I tell myself to suck it up b/c I have used that weight before or heavier.

I agree with everyone here do what works for you and don't mind what others are doing around you :)

If it makes you feel any better, I lift FAR less in gym styles than in any other workout. For chest flys, i just can't cope with my normal weight! I started with 12s, but now can cope with 25s for GS...so you WILL get there. But I found Gym Styles far harder than any other workout, and still lift far less...for biceps, i made the mistake of using the weight I used at the beginning of meso 2, and I wanted to scream because of the burn! So I quickly lowered ;)

Your body will tell you what it can do...it may be disheartening at first, but your body will eventually decide it can lift more.... and then think how proud you'll feel. But until then, know that you're not alone!

I was ecstatic when I was able to add 1 pound wrist weights to the 3 pound dumbells I was using (totalling 4 pounds) for the lying triceps extensions in High Reps! I just couldn't believe how hard that 3 pounds was at first...I was encouraged when I could squeek out those stinging burning reps with 4 pounds! Just last week, I got brave and did the first half (before the partials) with 5 pounds (!) before scrambling back down to 4. I bet I'll be using the 5 pounders exclusively soon!
That's what I love about Cathe workouts: you're challenged and you GROW!!!!
Keep pumping away...you'll get stronger!

Yep, I also agree w/ what everyone said. And don't forget...if you are failing on your reps, you are lifting as heavy as you need to. Keep up the good work and you will get stronger, you'll be amazed :)

If you are new to lifting weights, these weights you're using are pretty typical. You'll go up in weight very quickly. My first set of weights were 5, 8 & 10. Then I had to go buy 3's because the 5's were too heavy. Didn't take me long before I outgrew those and was out buying 12's and 15's, and then 20's. Then I had to buy an adjustable dumbbell because the solid ones just get so expensive and I needed to go higher.

Stick with it and enjoy the journey. Half the fun is recording your weights, then going back and seeing what you did 6 months ago in relation to what you're doing now. Try to do that, if you aren't already. I'm completely tickled going into the STS Workout Manager and seeing how much more I'm lifting this time than I did last time.

Great replies from everyone! I agree...just do what works for you. If you're failing at the end, it's all good! When my DH started working out with me, I was lifting heavier then him and he now has caught up and even passed me up on some exercises. Soooo, just keep at it. It def is a growing experience!
