Good luck tonight Janie!

Tonight is your commissioner's meeting, right? Don't be nervous--remember these are a bunch of schmucks who need you much more than you need them. Just get up & state your case, I bet you'll be fine.

I'll be thinking of you--let us know how it goes tomorrow! :)

You are all so wonderful! Thank you for remembering me. This is so cool, it tickles me.

Yes, I went today to the Commissioners Meeting, stated my complaints and concerns. All three of the commissioners came to me and congratulated me for coming to speak out. They are all on my side of the situation concerning roaming dogs with out leashes. The Chair person, also lead me into their office area, and introduced me to the Prosecuting Attorney to start a petition and help me out with the language. He wrote a rough draft of the petition, and I added a few more words to it.

I will soon get the revised petition and get a few signatures, then turn it in at the next weeks meeting (will be next Tuesday). Then they will put it in the paper. After that, The commissioners will do what they do best, and act on it. They are concerned about the Sheriff's Office, though. They (Sheriff's Office) seems to not want to enforce it for some reason. So maybe a little talk with them is forthcoming. I know that funds are available to them.

Anyway, it is nice to have friends in high places, and it is great to be involved in something that I believe is right.

It was a fantastic experience, and enjoying this process.

Thank you LauraMax for suggesting the Commissioner's Meeting to me and helping on how to get this resolved.

Good for you Janie! I'm so glad I can help--my skills are limited but once in a while they come in handy. :)

Of course the sheriff's office doesn't want to enforce b/c it would mean more work for them. Don't let them get away with it. Your taxes pay their salaries & their job is to address the needs of the taxpayers.

I don't get this petition thing either--do they have to have a certain number of signatures to pass an ordinance? Our ordinances go thru 2 readings & the second reading has a public comments section & by law we have to advertise it. That should be more than enough public notification. I hope they're not gonna try to blow you off with some kind of "not enough residents (meaning voters) support this."

Please let me know how things go next week........

Laura/Everyone,

They just want a few signatures for the petition. What ever I can provide. I told them I couldn't get many, but I'll get a few.

Thanks everyone for all your support. It is so much fun! My mind is off the neighbors that's for sure.

Sounds like you're off to a good start, Janie.
I would imagine that you might find more support for this than you might think. Probably a lot of people are fed up with unleashed dogs (from irresponsible owners) but never took the steps to get the ordonances changed.

Here's hoping you'll soon be able to enjoy your own property without having to worry about roaming neighbor dogs. (Though 'soon' when it comes to legal procedings may not be soon enough!).
