Hello:
I finally decided to got to a nutritionist to try to lose those last 10 pounds. I must be doing something wrong. I also want the accountability to help me avoid sweets. So, has anyone here been to a nutritioist? Has going to a dietician helped you achieve your goals? She has been doing this for 25 years, and has a great repuntation, but of course she is not cheap. I want to lose body fat not muscle so no low cal diets obviously. I want a lifestyle change. And I am not sure what to ask exactly.

Thanks

Hi! I'm using an online diet consultant, and it's helped me tremendously. The main thing is to make sure he/she knows your goals and your activity level, so he can help you appropriately. If you're working out strenuously, you'll need to eat a little more to keep your metabolism up. And if your goal is to maintain muscle, they'll need to know that, to properly balance your protein/carbs/fat.

If there are some foods you just CANNOT eat, let them know that too, and ask about substitutions. (I CANNOT eat tuna without a gag reflex, so I opt for other food choices.) :)

I would go ahead and journal EVERY single bite before you go, with portion sizes as much as possible. That way you won't waste time on the initial interview. The nutritionist can go ahead and see what she needs to see. I went to a sports nutrionist and it was very helpful.

I'm going to see one to, as a birthday gift to me. She specialises in sports nutrition. And I was wondering the same thing. I'm already keeping a food journal (food and drinks) also logging the calories I burn exercising.

As I'm an ovo-lacto vegitarian I've been wondering lately whether my diet meets my needs (protein wise) plus I would like to loose 8 pounds in total. So I'm hoping she can help me achieve my goals.

I would say the most important thing is to be completely honest with them! For example, if you have a sweet tooth, have them build it in your program. If you don't cook, they need to know that too.

I was thinking of going to one because I don't know what to eat anymore. I am so bored and tired of eating the same things. Is it really that expensive?

It all depends on your area I think. I live in Southeast Virginia (near the beach). My nutritionist is $20 per half hour. I see her every two weeks. She is also a personal trainer!

I found mine through www.eatright.org. I sent out a "canned email" to everyone in my area about services, credentials, and pricing. I narrowed them down by price, location, and credentials. I got a heck of a bargain!

Brilliant idea! I went and it helped me tremendously. It was the best $ I ever spent. If she's good, it's a bargain at any price.

She will probably have you write down everything you eat for a few days before you go, and you should do so. Ask her for written materials. My nutritionist gave me loads of written materials, and she wrote down everything she told me. So I didn't have to rely on my memory at all, and I have referred back to those written materials many, many times.

You won't be sorry! :D

WOW What a huge accomplishmnet in just 12 weeks! Congrats. May I ask what you workout program is like and your diet? You are a true inspiration. Keep up the good work. ooops that was to snazzy. I looked at your pics on the url you posted.
