George Foreman Grills

August

Hi, I live abroad so there's a chance I won't be able to find many, but I was wondering...

Does anyone know what the differences in the various George Foreman grills are? Is one model better over another, or is it mainly just a difference in size?

Thanks for any info!

Hi, Anne,

Is it a major pain to clean the grill if the plates aren't removable? That's the only kind I can find so far. And it's actually for 5 chicken breasts which is much bigger than I need, but it seems that it might be the only one available! x(

Hi August!

I've never had a GF grill, but I would think if the plates have a nonstick surface they'd be pretty easy to clean.

I just use a grill pan on my stove top and I like that a lot, but the GF grill probably cooks more quickly since it heats the food on both sides at once.

They do have a non stick, but i like to saop my grill and you have to use these plastic thingies then a wash cloth and then you have to use another to clean the soap off. I have the old fashioned kind and never use it for this reason.
If i were to rebuy i would buy one with removable plates. It would be more sanitary to me.

I agree with Anne. I have one of the older models that does not have removable plates and cleanup is a pain in the neck. It is buried in my "seldom used appliances" cabinet for that reason. I have seen them at Target, and I believe Wal-Mart sells them as well. You might be able to find them online.

I use mine every day and night when I cook my chicken breast. I have the bigger one where you have the long white narrow pieces to collect juices, etc. It is easy to clean. Non stick. I would not know what to do without it.

Thanks for the replies. Hmm. Now I'm not sure what to do! :p

Oh, Michele, well, Williams-Sonoma, of course it's super nice!

I guess maybe I'll take a look at what is offered here locally.

Here's a trick for cleaning the grills that aren't removable. After you're done cooking place 2 - 3 ice cubes on the grill (lid stays up) and as they melt it loosens anything stuck on the grill and it runs off into the little tray. Then just wipe with a paper towel. I wish mine had the removable grills also mainly for sanitary purposes.

Mine doesn't have removeable grills either. As soon as I am done cooking, I get a wad of wet paper towels and wipe it out. I have never had any trouble. I think back to when people used cast iron. You aren't suppose to use soap on them and they stay seasoned. So, I am not concerned about not being able to scrub them. Melissa

I had the GF with the non-removable plates and did the papertowel thing with it too ... but one night as I was cleaning it, I dropped it on the floor, broke it, and had to get another. I bought one with removable plates and am so glad I had the slippery soapy fingers the night of the old ones demise!

I am on my 3rd GF grill and soon to be 4th! I use it so much that I wear out the non stick coating! The most recent one I got had the bun warmer, but all that does is drive me nuts because the lid doesn't stay closed and is always coming open and banging when I open the grill.

My next one will be the removable grates one!!!

Oh man, and I had just convinced myself not to make the international order! LOL.

Now I've got to check it out again (there's only one model that I can find that can be shipped).

Thanks everyone!
