gel inserts alert

Just read a post from someone asking about gel inserts and it reminded me of this:

I LOVE my gel inserts in my running shoes. Guess what happened at the airport when I tried to wear them home from Salt Lake City?

yep. had to give 'em up!

I knew about and planned to comply with the "no gels, no liquids" on board policy, but NEVER even thought about my inserts! They were expensive ones, too. :-(

Be aware if you're planning to fly in your most comfortable shoes. :)

How did they know that they had gel in them? My Dr. Scholl's have fabric covering up the foam/gel stuff. Interesting...

You are kidding...
Isn't it a shame that you can't even take your toothpaste on a plane because a bunch of a**holes believe some god(not one I would worship) wants them to blow themselves and others up?
This world is crazy. Glad you said something. I have some insoles. I will remember that.

Anne,
I've been reading some of your post on this board and I must say, you are a p!sser! Thanks for making me smile!

What will they do if somebody brings a baby on board with a diaper? There could be liquids (and solids) in there. (And I would consider those dangerous or toxic substances at times!)

And what about those water bras or gel-filled 'Chicken filets'? Guess women would have to remove those, wouldn't they? But how would security know about them?

After 9/11, when security was bumped up, it seemed to vary from one airport to another.

In one airport, I had to open my suitcase and someone inspected my makeup (some of which was in opaque-to-xrays containers). Of course, the underwire bras and the CD player (I was giving a presentation, so needed to bring it) made them suspicious as well. On the way back, I went through with no problem.

I made a game of trying to imagine ways people could sneak dangerous objects through security (like the guy with crutches hiding something in them), and I came up with a few things that were more dangerous than the tiny nail files on nail clippers!
