frustrated - workout clothes!

I just got back from shopping for some new workout clothes and I am frustrated! I have a long torso, and it seems like most of the long w/o tops stop at about my belly button, and the bottoms are all low-rise. So, my 'muffin top' (which isn't huge, but it bothers me) hangs out in-between the top and bottom. I also have lots of stretch marks from pregnancy. I am so self-concious about my tummy - always have been! I workout at home, so having a bit of tummy showing shouldn't matter, but it bugs me, especially because that's the part of my body that I want GONE!

Anyone else feel this way, or am I just too hung-up? I just needed to vent.

On the plus side, I caught a glimpse of my arms in a mirror today, and actually saw a bit of curve in the triceps and shoulder!

Steph, Good job on the muscle definition.

I just bought some new workout clothes at T.J. Maxx the other day. Some shorts that are somewhat formfitting but not bike shorts and they are not low rise. I look for comfort not style in workout clothes but I still want to look nice, even if I'm alone. Good news is they were only $7.99. If you have one in your area, you might want to give TJ Maxx a try.

Hi Buffy,

We have TK Maxx (TJ Maxx equivalent in the UK) and that's where I get most of my workout clothes. All the bottoms seems to be low-rise there too. But, I did get a new sports bra )£5.99) and a Nike top (only £10!) there today.

I guess I'm mostly frustrated at myself, because my belly is my major trouble spot and I've been having a lot of trouble shifting that fat. I know it's probably my eating - I'm concentrating on cleaning that up. I'm also going to try to lift heavier, more consistently (2 times a week heavy, 1 time a week circuit) and cut down a bit on cardio (3 times a week, for no more than an hour) - I think I may have been over-training, as I was working out every single day and seeing no results!

I'm just so frustrated w/ this belly fat, and myself!x(

Stephanie,

This is off topic, but I had to comment on your use of the term "belly" since you live in the UK. :) In my last job, one of my markets was the UK so I spent a lot of time there. I have a friend there who has these two adorable kids. She's a bit posh, if you know what I mean. I was in the car with the kids while my friend ran into a store and I was talking with them about their "belly" buttons. They thought that was hilarious and were laughing their little heads off (3 yrs. old and 6 yrs. old) - and repeating it, of course. Well, my friend came back and was absolutely mortified that her children were using the word belly. She said it is a tummy, not a belly and that word was not to be used. She was quite cross with them about using that word. Wow - I felt terrible! :)

Stephanie,

My belly had not previously been a problem for me until I gained 10 pounds over the last 2 years (I turned 40 two years ago and that seems to be when the weight gain started). I started weight watchers about a month ago and I have lost about two pounds so far. I noticed this morning that my belly looks (slightly) better. Sooo happy!!! Working out has never been a problem for me, but I realized that as I get older I have to watch my eating more.

So that being said, just keep up the workouts and really keep an eye on your diet and I'm positive your belly will respond with good results.

Good luck (to you and me; i still have 8 pounds to go).

That's funny! I've never heard that 'belly' isn't to be used, but I do hear 'tummy button' instead of 'belly button.' As far as I know, belly isn't like fanny - a word not to be used in polite company! It's a 'bum bag', never, ever a 'fanny pack' in the UK.

(If you don't know, fanny is your privates. ;) )

I have a problem as well, because large fits well length wise. But I went into Dollar General 25% off sale, and I purchased large capris, but behind is sagggy!! But not only TJMaxx,Marshalls, Ross and sometimes the "marts" have great sales, that fit on the waist, to hide the "beer and baby belly" :D,

I too do not like my middle to show. I had luck with underarmour shorts and ativa tops from Dick's Sporting Goods. Now, if I could find clothes that actually wick the sweat away! Melissa
