feeling guilty

Hey Cathy fans,
Just had to vent some frustration. My 8 year old daughter and I have had a really bad virus for about 7 days now and are just starting to feel better. I have this terrible guilt, because I haven't worked out for a week. I am a regular exerciser, 6 days a week, and I guess I just need some reassurance that it is o.k. to take a week off. Should I ease back into a routine or do I get back to Cathe's Cross train X tapes rotation right away? Any suggestions? Sick in Wisconsin :-tired :-tired

Hi,
You most definitely should not feel guilty! Since you have other people besides yourself to take care of, it is even more important that you get back to 100% as soon as possible! Rest is usually the only thing that will get you back to 100% when you have been sick, especially for several days. It is SO HARD to take care of children at the same time you are sick. You did the right thing by taking it easy. If you hadn't taken it easy, you might have been sick for much longer. I would start back with only 3 or 4 workouts for the first week, but then that's only my personal opinion. Take care!!

Boy I know how you feel. I am sick, too, and feeling guilty about not working out. I am going to Maui in two weeks to celebrate my husband's and my 40th birthdays. (I'm two days older than he is) Well, two days ago, I caught some kind of bug, and I feel awful. I know that if I do cardio I will get overheated and start coughing. Commom sense tells me to lay off the workouts for awhile, but I am worried that I will lose the progress I've made. I wanted to feel like I was in the best shape of my life when I hit 40. Realistically, a week off of exercise will not cause me to gain a bunch of weight (unless I eat badly), and I'm sure my muscle tone won't go away.

So, let's make a pact and ease up on ourselves. I remember reading a post by Cathe, where she was telling someone who couldn't work out due to an injury that she should treat herself to some indulgences that she might not have a chance to otherwise. I will go home tonight (or earlier, since I feel so crummy) and lay on the couch and read a book. And I won't step on the scale every 5 minutes (as I've been known to do) to see if I've gained weight.

Plus, since we plan on working out for the rest of our lives, a week or two here and there is really just a tiny blip in the overall big picture.

A big thank you to you too Veronica for making me feel better. I think I will dust off some of those books I have been meaning to read too. AmyJo

Well Said

Veronica,
Thanks for the encouraging words. I think all of need a reminder not to be too hard on ourselves once in a while. I'm sure by resting you'll be in great health to enjoy your two weeks in Maui :-wow :-wow . Have a GREAT time.
