Fargo Marathon

Cathlete
So...... May 9th is the Fargo 1/2 and full marathon. I've signed up to do my first every 1/2 marathon. Just curious to see how many other Catheites are planning on running?

Well I am planning on something to do with the Fargo marathon on May 9th.........

My plan is to run the 5K. I can't run 2 blocks so I am in training right now. I have run in 3 minute stretches but now have to do 3 minutes run 90 seconds walk and 5 minutes run, repeat. It will kill me I am sure of it.

Good luck on the 1/2.

Winter

Winter, you can do it!!!! I didn't realize they had a 5K, are you from Fargo area? I hoping it won't be canceled due to flooding!

Well I am sure going to try. I am not from the Fargo area. I live in Thief River Falls, MN. I teach at the community college in TRF and East Grand Forks, MN.

I hope it is not canceled too. I can do all of Rythmic Step but run for 3 minutes and I about die. Kind of weird.

Good luck!!

1/2 marathoner here

I've done two Las Vegas 1/2 marathons and I have to tell you I don't run all year except for a 10k I do every year in November and the 1/2 Marathon in December. Thanks to Cathe, I can run! The cardio and strength training work. This year is the first Las Vegas Rock N Roll marathon and I can't wait! There'll be a band at every mile. Good luck to everyone who does it. Talk about a feeling of accomplishment!!!!!

A very very short time ago, I was in exactly your shoes. Couldn't run around the block without getting winded. But I trained and last weekend I finished my first 5k in 29:51!! If I can do it, YOU certainly can!

Winter, I live in Baudette. This is my first trip to the "big" city, Fargo!! lol We've lived here for 1.5 years. You can totally do a 5K!

How is the river level now in Fargo? I'm more further north in the Red River Valley (Winnipeg, Canada). The Red river is cresting here this weekend, and things are not looking good. The highway from Winnipeg to Grand Forks has now been closed. We were in Grand Forks last weekend and had to detour around the flooded area.

What's the Fargo marathon like? I have run the Manitoba marathon once, and the half marathon a few times. DH is also a marathon runner, and may like to try a different course one day. Fargo is only a 4 hr drive.

Good luck! Kim

I'm doing the 5K during the Fargo Marathon event.

I live here in Fargo, so if you have specific questions about my town, ask away! haha. :p

The river, right now, is sitting at 31 feet and is expected to crest again, around April 16th, at about 38 feet. The original crest a few weeks ago was 41 feet.

I've been training on a treadmill at the gym and have yet to take my running outside. I hate running on the treadmill, but I also hate being cold, so I choose the lesser of the two evils!! hahaha. :D I drove near my old 5K training route earlier this week and was amazed at the dikes and water where there was once a path. When I take my training outside, I will definitely be finding a new route! It's supposed to be in the 50's later this week, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I believe the best place to look for updated info is the actual Fargo Marathon website: http://www.fargomarathon.com/

I'm excited there are other cathe fans who will be running at the Fargo Marathon event!!! :D

Kara, thanks for the update! I, too have done 99 percent of my training indoors b/c it's been too cold/wet outside; however, I ran my first time outside on Wednesday. I'm having trouble moving still. Seriously. It felt that different.

I've never run the Fargo run, but I heard it's relatively flat. Which sounds good to me!
