Easiest Drill Max Drill

Cathlete
Hey all,
Last night I was doing Drill Max for the umpteenth time and I noticed that after the first drill Cathe says "I just want to warn you, the drills get increasingly difficult"--yet I would have to disagree. I feel like after the first three they get easier. Does anyone else find this to be true or am I crazy? I find the 3rd and 4th drills to be especially easier than the others (although none of them are "easy"--they just don't make me want to fall on the floor, gasping for air, wishing I was dead...!) :p

What's your most dreaded Drill Max drill?

Allison

I guess my most dreaded is Drill 6 with the squat thrusts and tuck jumps. Drill 4 with the fast feet repeaters sometimes leave me gasping. I haven't done Drill Max in quite a while but it's in my rotation this month so I'll let you know how it goes.

I would rate the cardio only from HARDEST to easiest as follows:

1. Drill 5
2. Drill 2
3. Drill 1
4. Drill 6
5. Drill 3
6. Drill 4

I find the tricep push ups on the dumbbells into a side plank to be the toughest non-cardio move in this workout. I just CAN'T do them! But I have to keep trying. The push ups on the ball are also pretty tough, as are the bomb diver (dive bomb, whatever) push ups.

I love Drill Max!

Do you like this workout, Allie??

I think that the drills get easier the more I do the w/out. I actually dread that first drill just cause it is not my favorite one. I really like the last drill with the squat thrusts and I like the fast feet one.

Hey Jill!

I really do love this workout! I did the Cardio and Upper Body premix last night though and was not in love with that one. This may sound crazy but it just wasn't hard enough. I like doing Drill Max either "as-is" or just the drills (like in Cardio Fusion). I've never done the premix where you do the cardio drills twice though--I think I might die on that one!

p.s. Jill--I totally agree with you on how you rated the drills from hardest to easiest. That's EXACTLY how I'd rate them too!!!

Allison

#6 is definitely hardest for me. I'm OK through the squat thrusts, but when she moves into those lunges I'm completely tuckered out by the third set.

Laura,
I just for the life of me can not figure out those lunges on drill 6. Whenever I do them I don't feel them, so obviously I'm doing something wrong. I had to stop and rewind the first time I did them. I was doing them backwards. Ugh. They frustrate me every time! But if they get you tired, then they must be good (once I figure out how to do them!!!)

Allison

I don't much feel them working my muscles--a little in the quads, that's about it. But, to use Cathe's word, boy do they get me winded! :p It's not so much the lunges themselves but the jumping in the transition from one leg to another. Killer!

I find the first one the hardest and I really do dread it. I have long legs and have to put my weight on the step to be able to actually 'tap'. If it was on the floor, I would be too:p :+ Interesting how we are all so different. I love drill #4, so fun!

Take Care

Really? That's funny. I've never done the upper/cardio premix but I LOVE the lower body/cardio premix. Also, the double cardio premix is tough, but it's great! (And it doesn’t include the squat thrusts from drill 6!)

Hi all,

I just did this workout this morning (it's one of my definite favorites), and I think that one of the toughest for me arm-wise is the third one with the stability ball. I always feel like my arms are going to fall off from grabbing onto that ball for so long! Any one else feel this way??

Leanne

Personally my husband and I dread "lying taps" in drill 1. Maybe it is b/c it is the first one and we are out of breath - I don't know. But I am always happy when it is over. Also, core push ups (after the bomb divers) are very hard for me! Lateral raises linked with walking lunges after drill 5 are also a burn.

Jill & Allison- I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Drill Max! I love it "as is" and the cardio/lower body premix the best too! Below is my rating system from hardest to easiest but drill 1&2 are almost tied for me. The lunges in 6 do get me winded but about every other time I change it up and I'll do dead lifts with 2 12's instead of the lunges, just b/c I like them and do so many lunges in other things too!

1. Drill 2
2. Drill 1
3. Drill 5
4. Drill 6
5. Drill 3
6. Drill 4

Leanne - I think the reason drill 3 gets your arms so much is b/c it is directly after all the push ups in drill 2! One day I switched up the drills in different orders b/c I do DM so much I figured it would be good and I did drill 3 after drill 1 I think and it was SO much easier on the arms b/c they weren't fried from the push ups!

This one is on my schedule for Sunday morning! :7

I HATE the one with the stability ball, number 3 I believe. It gets to me. I love number 4 and never liked number 5. No, they do not get any easier to me at all. Your body is probably getting used to the drills since it sounds like you do it alot and you are becoming, bionic, fit woman!!:7 :7 Good for you! :7

I feel the same. #3 with the stability ball is so hard for me and then the squat on the wall.... and also #5. I like #6 but then I can never do the launges squats with the ball at the end because my legs are so tired....

I rarely do the workout "as is", most of the time I do the cardio premixes so based on the cardio ONLY I rank the drills from hardest to easiest:

1. #5
2. #3
3. #1
4. #6
5. #2
6. #4

I HATE The one with the stability ball in the cardio. I believe its number 3. My arms get all crampy from hanging on to that big ol' ball. I sometimes sub out a 3lb weight when I do the pendulum portion. The hardest one for me cardio-wise is the Jumping/rebounding, but at least it's fun. And the side plank pushups with the weights are tough!! They just aren't comfortable. My 3lbs don't sit high enough up off the floor for my hands to fit all the way under them, so my body weight is on my 1st 2 knuckles. I tried 5lbs and while my hands fit, it's too heavy to not break form and yank my sides. I normally just toss in a set of regular pushups. I'm tired by then, anyway!!!

Overall, though, I think the 2nd half is easier than the 1st half of the workout, too. But I think it depends on the person. All the drills have their tough spots. I think that's why I like this one so much. Nothing in it is terribly difficult on its own, but when its all put together, my goodness!!! I've done the ultra cardio heart attack death premix 2x. After the 1st I swore I'd never do it again. The 2nd time was a little better. I guess I'm not one for sticking to my convictions, as I'm sure I'll do it again.
