early morning step

i workout at 5a.m. The problem is that when i do step i end up waking up my fiance' and he is not happy about it. i've put rugs under the step to try and muffle the noise. Does anyone have any other suggestions or am i going to have to forego step in the mornings?

Hmmmm....that's a toughie. I have worked out in apartments for years (just recently moved to a house so now I'm home free noise-wise!)and I always had my step on a rug and then also had two yoga mats--one to put under the step (also helps to keep it from sliding--and muffles noise like a charm!) and one to put behind the step so that my feet were always on that and not the floor/rug. If you're willing to spring for two yoga mats, I would highly recommend that.

I'll keep thinking about more ideas, though. It's such a bummer to feel like you have to be stepping on egg shells, isn't it? ;)x(
I have had apartments on second, third, and tenth floors and the above ideas always seemed to do the trick. If not, then maybe you'll have to give in and do your step workouts in the evening.

Or of course, you could always tell your Fiance to turn a fan on and deal with it.... ;) That's what my roommates eventually had to do. They got used to it... :p

I put a white-noise machine (same as a fan, really) outside the kids' bedroom, close the doors to the room I work out in, and my husband wears earplugs.

The other issue is getting my brain to move my body in a coordinated way at 6:00 in the morning.

I hear you on early morning coordination! I'm always falling off my step @ 5:30am!

I'm lucky to be blessed w/ deep sleepers (plus I WO in a carpeted room). DH is occasionally awake, but won't gripe, just turns on the TV...

I have a roommate who lives down stairs in the basement, and at times it disturbes her but she has learned to sleep thru it. I agree with the yoga mats or white noise.

Do you guys go to bed at the same time? My fiance and I always go to bed at the same time, and if he "accidentally" has to wake up as early as me, I do NOT feel bad.

thanks for the advice. i'm going to try the yoga matts. luckily i already have a couple just never thought to use them. he actually is patient with it and has never gotten super pissed he just says some mornings i wake him up and i feel bad doing so. he tends to go to bed later than me. most of the time he doesn't hear anything but its those few times that make me extra careful. i'll do step again on thursday so i will let you know.
