Doggie Dental Care

Okay, so a few weeks ago I asked if anyone has had their dogs teeth cleaned because I was thinking of having my 10 year old Dachshunds teeth cleaned because of bad breath and the vet thought one of the back teeth could be pulled.

Today I went through with it and they ended up taking 3 teeth and said one of them was abscessed, there was a large hole and lots of puss!!! ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww The vet said it was a very good thing that I did this when I did because the complications of an abscess could be deadly. He even said don't be surprised if you notice you have a new dog with a lot more energy and she was probably in some discomfort with the bad teeth.

Totally worth every penny! I hope she will be around for another 10 years.

That's great! Sometimes we don't really realize how much discomfort they were in until the offending teeth are removed. I had a client with an elderly that was so reluctant to anesthetize her geriatric poodle. He had horrible teeth and periodontal disease. She finally caved in and did it because he couldn't eat well. We pulled every single tooth. They essentially just fell out. After his procedure, he had renewed life and she said he hadn't felt that good in years! She wished she'd done it long ago...hindsight's 20/20, I guess!

Good for you and good for your precious doxie friend:) You're a good mom!

Now try to keep up on post-dental care at home to keep that tartar from rebuilding. Brushing really does help tremendously!
