DH's health-long

3kids

Cathlete
Hi all. Haven't been around for a while. Started back to school and getting the kids ready to start school again. It's been a fast summer. I need some advice for my DH. He's 41 and recently had a knee arthroscopy. It's in bad shape so low impact for him now. Then the past weekend I had to take him to the ER because I thought he was having a heart attack. It was just heat exhaustion thank goodness. He's in excellent shape BTW. But now I think he is suffering from panic attacks. He is away on business right now and I thought I was going to have to travel to get him. We have an appointment with the Dr. He's very embarrassed because typical man, he's always the "strong" one. I don't know what to do. Seeing him lying in the hospital bed really scared me and the worst goes through your mind. He hasn't been able to eat anything in a few days, and this man can eat:) I know it has a lot to do with stress, his job, he is working on his 2nd master's and home. I try to take some of the burden off but he puts too much on his plate.(He also plays drums in a band on the weekends) I know he has to quit school #1. I'm just at a lost and really frightened for him. Thanks for the venting session and the support everyone:)

Wow! When does the man sleep? It really does sound like he has too much on his plate. Perhaps this will help him see that he needs to slow down a little. I'm sending positive vibes and good wishes to you, him and your family:)

3kids-
I've been there. In the ER, unable to breathe with my chest feeling like it's going to explode and the doctor says "panic attack" and I feel so relieved!

Panic attacks can be very scary and debilitating while you're going through them, but compared to "real" health problems, they are temporary and don't harm you in the long run. I think our bodies are great at letting us know when we're in over our heads. Panic attacks are a blessing in disguise because they warn you that if you don't slow down a bit and stop trying to be superman, you really will make yourself sick. I think your DH should respect the wisdom of his body and heed the warning it is trying to give to him.

Please don't worry too much!

Thank you all for your encouragement and prayers. I picked up my DH at the airport last night and he just looked so relieved to be home. He has agreed to stop school but now we just have to try to get a medical note for him to stop. Otherwise we have to pay his company back, and at $3500 a class it's not cheap. And I don't have that sitting in the bank. I really hope we can get a note or he will continue the class. I am trying not to worry, but when your best friend is suffering and there is nothing you can do, you really feel helpless:-(

Well if he can't stop class now, maybe he can put off something else just while he finished the class.

Try not to let him continue to overdo it. Remind him of the 3 kids.
