CLX and oblique exercises with weights??

Chalean and crew are using weights when doing oblique exercises...I know I read/heard somewhere that using weights while working the obliques will make your thick instead of leaning you out. That simple twisting left to right with a bar/broom handle is the best way to trim your middle. Also I noticed that the ladies in the CLX video don't really have an hour class shape (middle) not that there is anything wrong with that:eek:........but I'm wondering if that is their normal shape or if it's that particular exercise that is making them look wide. Any thoughts?
 
I've questioned using weights for obliques too.

IMO, the women in the burn phase all look like apples to me. They all have thin legs and thicker through the mid section- including Chalene.
The only one that looks somewhat like a pear is the gal with 7 kids. She has a lean long torso with some substance to her lower body. Just my observation.

I can't comment on the women in the other phases because I can't remember them:eek:

I certainly don't want to thicken my waist! I hope someone helps us out here...
