Cathe's Weighted Vest

Hi everybody!

I received my Fitness By Cathe weighted vest today.

First Impression: Great Features like a cell phone pocket and reflective stripes

Great Mini DVD where Cathe demostrates the use of most all her line.

When my daughter came home from school today, we went on our walk in my subdivision.

My subdivision is large and the terrain is not at all flat, but contains steep climbs.

I got the cardiovascular heartrate wearing the vest that I have had when I ran the terrain.

How great! An excellent cardio workout without any impact at all.

And I am glad to have the vest to use in the parts of STS that use the vest in lieu of a squat rack. I neither can afford or have room for a squat rack.

I am so glad I pre-ordered the calendar so I can enjoy the savings on her new Altus Line.

Anything with Cathe Friedrich's name on it is superior and this vest was no exception.

That's great -- I'm glad you like it so well. I have had mine for about three weeks now, but other than trying it on haven't had the chance to use it. I also plan to up the intensity of walking with it and to help out with the weight levels for STS. It was very comfortable during the "try on."

I just gave my DH my "wish list" for the holidays, and the vest is on it. Crossing my fingers that he gets it for me....:)

I love this vest!! It is so super neat! I like how it is easy to put on and take off. I have already incorporated this vest into some of her workouts. I use it in the last part of the legs in cardio kickbox as well as certain places in butts and gutts and WOW what a HUGE difference it is using this piece of equipment.

When we get something new such as the vest and begin to us it we wonder how the heck we got along without it for so long!

The only bad thing I see with this vest is the inability to wash it. Lets face it I am wearing it while workingout, sweat will get on this vest and it might start to stink. Guess there is always frebreze!

I just ordered mine with my 20% off coupon from my calendar order (and uh, a few other DVDs I NEEDED) and am now SO EXCITED to use it. I'm hoping it turns walks with the kiddos into a little extra cardio for me. :)

The weighted vest is awesome! I wore it yesterday while doing the Butts and Guts Leg Blast premix, and let's just say that I really feel it in my legs today! :)

Ok, so after reading this thread I found a vest locally (Fitness by Cathe at Sports Chalet) and bought it... After getting it home, I tried it on and all that happy stuff... It felt like a TON when carrying it around in the box, but I am now wondering if it will be enough weight later on down the road... I did see the 20# and 40# adjustable weight versions of vests, but they cover so much more of your body I worry about being too hot wearing it. The Atlus one did appear to be a lot of mesh in between, but was also double the price for the 40# version. I would really like to use it in lieu of a bar bell for now as my elbows and leg form suffer using one for squats and thought this might be a good alternative to more evenly distribute the weight for these types of exercises...

:)o I also worry about what it will *smell* like after a month of wearing it with as much as Cathe makes me sweat! and not being able to throw it in the wash...)

what are your thoughts on this? should I keep the 10 and hope that I can someday work through my BB issues, or other ideas about other vests?

ETA: Leanne, did you still use BB/DB's with your workout as well as the vest for B&G? if so, did you go lighter or use the same and just add the vest? Thanks

I personally wouldn't buy a vest that wasn't washable (my Ironwear vest washes wonderfully in the machine on the "handwash" cycle).

I also wouldn't buy a non-adjustable vest. I think 10# might be too heavy for some things, but too light for progress. (Cathe did mention that they are going to be coming out with an adjustable version of the vest later on. I'm not sure if that means it would also be washable, because the weights--which are what cause the problems with washing---can be removed).

I'm not sure what "BB" stands for in your post (or what "BB issues" are). Did I miss something?

Thanks for the review. I'm planning on getting one with my 20% coupon, but I have to wait until after my birthday on the 22nd to see what DH gets me off my wish list :)

I use the vest during the standing leg work on "Butts and Guts" and I totally feel the burn!

If you are an advanced exerciser and need a little more to really get results, the weighted vest is an awesome investment!

Hi Kathryn: BB meaning Bar Bell... while back I wrote a thread asking about elbow pain, length of the bar with respect to your height, etc, because I was having a hard time with my hand position being too close together causing stress in my elbows ~ feeling like your arm is going to sleep line when you are on the phone for a long time... So basically I have to hold DB's on my shoulders and with only the 10# vest, heavier db's aren't always the most comfortable on my shoulders to do lower body work..

I totally agree about the washing too...

Guess I will be returning it :) and either getting the adjustable/washable one or see what Cathe comes up with...

thanks,
