Can a Pessimist become an Optimist?

I've started paying attention to the things I say, fret, and whine about, and realize that I really do have a Glass Half Empty attitude. (whine)

I sometimes think about purposely practicing a Glass Half Full attitude, and sometimes I even do a little thought adjustment, but :whine: --it's hard.

Have any of you worked on this?

Gisela

Hi Gisela,

Yes, it's something that I've worked on for a long time and it most defiitely can be done. For me, yoga and meditation helped me to achieve my attitude adjusment.

It's sometimes a lot easier to be down on what's not going well in your life, than to sit back and count your blessings. I think your idea of purposely trying to practice a Glass Half Full attitude is a good one, and I think it can be contagious to those around you! I think optimism breeds optimism, and vice versa.

Good luck! :)

Yes, and when I get down, I try to remember to be grateful for the things that I have, and that things could be so much worse. It does take work to re-train the mindset, but it can be done.

Yes, You CAN! I was born a pessismist and have become an optimist. It is possible because...guess what? It is your brain and the way you perseve things. If you chose to look at the world positively, then that is what you see. I don't think you need a shrink just practice. Be thankful for the things you have and only seek the good.

Good luck to you!
