I've been thinking about getting a punching bag. I got the new rapid fire Kickboxing DVD and looking into the mma. I've been checking Craigslist and found a couple pretty reasonably priced. They seem to come in different weight and height. How do I.know what to get? Also should I get a free standing one or the type that hangs from chain on a stand? Which do u have?

Thanks

I have a red Century Wavemaster freestanding unit.

I found it in my local classifieds for $40. It works great. You can adjust the height of the padded section. I filled mine with water--doubles as an emergency water source.:p I have it downstairs on carpet with a rubbermaid rug liner mat underneath. It doesn't slip at all, but I can easily move it if I need to. I don't have a place to hang a bag from my ceiling, so I went for the Wavemaster.

Personally I prefer the hanging bag. I had a wavemaster & the darn thing moved all over the room. It'd end up on the opposite side from where I started.

I LOVE the hanging bag. Of course it swings when you strike it so it can make distance a little tough to gauge, but it doesn't go anywhere, is nice & secure, & I don't have to follow it around my basement. :D It cost about the same as the standing bag & was pretty easy to install. I think the best hanging bag fixture is the stand, but it's too tall for my basement. You can also hang it from the ceiling, or there's another option of a wall bracket that has a swinging arm so when you're not using it you can push it out of the way (that's the bracket I have).

Good luck & have fun! Nothing like a good sweaty bag workout! :)
