Big feet

O.K. - so I am pregnant for the first time and wanted to know if, though I teach exercise classes 5xs/wk, should I still expect that my feet will grow? I need to order new shoes and am unsure if I should order in my size or a 1/2 size up. And...for those of you who have experienced this, did your feet actually GROW or did they swell?

Hi,

With my first pregnancy my shoe size went from a 7 1/2 to an 8. I didn't exercise consistently back then but with my 2nd pregnancy my shoe size didn't increase.

My feet grew 1/2 size with each pregnancy! I guess I would wait until you absolutely need new shoes and then just order one pair in the size you need.

My feet grewe 1/2 size with my first pregnancy and never shrank!! My second pregnancy they did not grow. I am hoping they don't grow this time. I am 20 weeks and so far no sign of growth- but the big heavy part of pregnancy is still in my future. I would say wait until the last minute to get them. Every woman and every pregnancy is different.

With my first 2 pregnancies, my shoes size grew my a 1/2 each and staid that way. With this one though, I don't think my feet have grown. Maybe that's because of all the bedrest. My shoes are tight right now but that could be due to the swelling. Interesting question Tammyspq.

Hey - thanks for all the feedback! You'd think I'd cut down on the salty pretzels I'm eating now - just in case. I hope I'm blessed with the same shoe size. I'm only 5'2" and I don't know how "interesting" I'd like going from a 7.5 to 8.5!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the growing feet isn't due to water gain (although that be an additional discomfort)... growing feet are due to spreading caused by a combination of the hormone relaxin in your system and the added weight on your feet... and, so, your feet will likely REMAIN larger after your pregnancy. Okay... and if I didn't scare you enough (LOL)... it may even be that hard core exercisers are MORE likely to go up a size or so (I've known a couple of instructors who haven't had kids yet who've said that their feet have gotten bigger) because of all of the pounding, etc.

(whose feet started at a size 8 before baby #1... grew to a 9 by the end of the first pregnancy, and are now a size 9 1/2 at 27 wks. pg in my 2nd pregnancy IN SPITE of the fact that everyone told me that they only spread out the first time... YIKES!)

Can you believe that my shoe size is only 5 1/2. Surprisingly my feet only swelled for the first pregnancy but I was still able to fit into my shoes. So far this pregnancy, at 31 weeks, my feet are only slightly swollen and my shoes fit fine. Geez, I wouldn't mind them growing to a size 6 since many selections are just not available in 5 1/2 (unless they have butterflies, flowers, or pre-teen jargon splashed on them,:))
