B-Line Bands vs. Pull up Bar? ~

Are the B-Line bands just as effective as doing a modified pull-up on the bar? I have just purchased a set of bands w/ the attachment. Is the 30 lb weight band a good place to start?
Did my first P90X dvd, chest and back and I guess feeling a little intimidated by the pull-up bar.

Thanks,
Jen - :)

I don't think they are as effective as the pull-ups necessarily, but they are a good second place. And they are good if you don't have a pullup bar. ("Chest/Back" intimidate me too much on previewing, so my P90X workouts sat around for a couple of months before I even attempted them. Then I jumped into the middle of the first week rotation with "SHoulders and Arms," which was much more approchable.)

Did you get the heaviest set of the B-lines? I started with the greens, then quickly went up to the heaviesr ones. There is a heavier resistance Lifeline band available from www.power-systems.com .

I tried using the bands when I first started the series but moved to modified pull-ups. I vote that modified pull-ups are much better than just the bands.

You can use the bands in conjunction with a pull-up bar for a very intense modified pull-up.

If you want to get something as close to pull-ups as possible using the bands, you need to go with heavy resistance. Just think of the difference between 30# and your body weight! (Though the different movements might not make for an exact equivalence). I wouldn't consider going lighter than the three heavier ones.

Oh, and their door attachment felt really risky to me. There is a much safer version at www.sissel-online.com . It can go at the top of the door with no risk of it slipping out.
