Aquajock--Weighted Vest

Cruncholi

Cathlete
Dear Aquajock,

It appears from your posts that you own a weighted vest. I would like to purchase a weighted vest since I have tendonitis in my elbow and I can't lift a barbell over my head right now. I think I need a 40-lb vest to get any benefit. However, I looked on-line at FWOnline.com and the 40-lb. is about $90. D!ck's only sells a 20-lb. vest for $30, but it also looks cheap and not well-made. Where did you get yours? Do you know where I can find a 40-lb. vest for less than $90, or is that the going rate?
Thank you.

RE: Cruncholi -

Hey, Linda! Unfortunately, I don't think you're going to find anything significantly less than that - in fact, what you found at FWOnline is less than what I paid at my local SportMart here in the Minneapolis / St. Paul area. I may be wrong, and I'd hope others will chime in here if I am.

While you're saving your spondoolicks for a weight vest (and I agree with your reluctance to buy a vest with a lighter max weight load and shoddy workmanship), is there a way you could modify your leg work so that you're holding the barbell in the crook of both arms? I've seen that demonstrated in different fitness magazines. Also reverting back maybe to doing the dumbbell thing.

RE: Cruncholi -

Annette,

Thanks for replying on the weighted vest question. I will save my money.

As to the crook of the arm thing, just this morning I tried PS Legs & Abs holding my wimpy 18-lb body bar in the front position resting on the front of my shoulders and that worked. My elbow seemed to be able to manage that OK.

I also used no more than 10-lb. dumbbells for some of the exercises, holding them down at my sides and that seemed to work also, but I don't think anything more would be good for the elbow. Thanks for the suggestions!

Linda
