Anyone heard of the Triple Ironman?

I know some ultra marathoners (a friend of mine runs the Badwater Ultra Marathon every year and goes out an runs 80 miles "for fun" - his words). I'm in awe of them, but this is something completely different. I could not imagine even doing ONE of those three events. Holy crap... I'm a cyclist and have ridden few 100 milers, but the idea of doing 300 miles on a bike and THEN going out to run an ultra. Yeah, wow...
 
Why in the name of GOD would anyone want to do that?!?!?! That is just plain old NOT HEALTHY. His body is going to break down and he is going to suffer serious, serious injuries. I'm sorry, that is just abusing your body. Hope he has fun! I, on the other hand, will stick to my hour-long, 6 day a week Cathe workouts. :)

There are some people who are just built to do these things. My friend who runs Ultras is not one of those who comes home with blisters and in so much pain he can barely move - he just comes home feel like he got a good workout. I was not kidding when I said that he does an 80 mile run for fun. We've done search and rescue together, and he's searched, in good spirits and happily, after an 80 mile run. He's 5'6, weighs about 105 pounds, and is just built to do it. A marathon to him is like a 5k to me. I guess everyone needs a challege...
 
Like Christine said...these kinds of events are like a 5K to us...but a Triple Ironman...YES, what Wendy said!!!!!!
 
Aside from my initial comment which is all that came to mind at first (LOL!)...I am in complete and total of awe of anyone who is capable of even considering an IRONMAN much less a TRIPLE!!!

Remember Dean (I forget his last name?)...the ultra marathoner who ran 50 marathons in 50 states in 50 days!? There's another holy cr@p for ya! LOL I am in awe of him too!

That is just freakin’ amazing! I love endurance events but this is just above and beyond! :eek:
