50 and over week of March 9 check-in

Cathlete
Hope this starts a great week.

Beth I only got disc 7 in Sunday. I really felt pushups and everything else more because I hadn't worked out in a week. Monday may be slightly less busy and will try to get in some wo. I'm glad it's working for you. I don't see any difference but what can you expect with little cardio.

Jann glad to hear you are healing so well. I feel I'm lifting the most I can right now. Struggling on last two reps, but I don't think it is very heavy.
disc 7 examples
standing overhead press 12lb- 10rep, 10lb-10rep, 8lb-10rep
barbell curl -20lb -10 rep
seated incline hammer curls both arms 10lb-15rep
chest flys-16lb-15reps
I did first 25 pushups on toes rest on knees.

Magnolia I collect diets. I don't follow them because I think calories are the only thing that matter but for some reason I find them interesting.(Especially if I get them free from the library.)

:eek::eek::eek:I bought 5 boxes of Girl Scout cookies and ate a ton of them. I must have needed the sugar because I feel a lot better. No weigh in tomorrow.

Joan

Joan I think those weights look great! My goodness the overhead presses are amazing. My shoulders are my weakest area. I can’t do any type of pushup or plank yet they really pull my stomach area. Doing 25 on your toes is outstanding!! If you are struggling on the last couple of reps then you are actually where you need to be. :D

Those darn girl scouts!! They tried to get me to buy those cookies. I didn’t because I have NO will power lately!

I have such a busy day today. Here it is 8:00 and I am still in front of my PC! I will be doing cardio today. Most likely a Cathe step of some sort. What ever looks good when I get to my exercise space.

Have a good one ladies!

I just went back to last weeks thread –

Beth – I can’t wait until I get muscle that it starts burning fat again. I know it works! No jinx here --- sending positive vibes ---- burn fat burn!! :D

Magnolia – Are you going to follow the rotation as written? I am adding an extra cardio day where the first rest day is scheduled. I will be only taking one rest day. I hope that made since. At lease that’s how I am starting out.;)

Good Morning, Ladies.

Jann, I am also going to add the extra cardio day. I think it's a little strange to work out one day, then take a rest day followed by four days of workouts. If I were going to take a second rest day, I think it would be closer to the middle of the week. Think I'll just throw in a Cathe tomorrow & keep going. I did Burn Circuit 1 this morning, and must have used the correct weights for me because I am already feeling it in my arms and upper back. Actually, it feels good. I know I still have muscles there!

BTW, Jamaica is beautiful and I loved the people, but please tell your son that there are pick-pockets there, so he and his bride need to take precautions with their money when they are out in public.

Joan, the only real diet I like is the South Beach Diet. I really have to be told what to eat and when or I seem to get lost. That particular diet has the best recipes, and the food is so good that it's not terribly hard to stick to. But it's the same with all diets--ultimately you have to live and eat in the real world, so you have to learn how to deal with holidays, special occasions, etc. BTW, congrats on the great work you are doing with STS!

Beth, Bev and Pauline, I hope all is well with you!

Everyone have a great day!

Magnolia

Just a quick check in between appts.

I don't even think I will bother to get book from library. I checked on line Jann and it seem to be all about selling pills.

I did get the Flat Belly Diet. You eat 4 meals and don't eat more than 400 calories at each meal. You also add to each meal one of the following
oils, olives, nuts and seeds, avocados, or dark chocolate. I don't know if I believe it will work but they have a 4 day diet to get rid of bloat that I think would be good for special events. (That is one of my major problems at times)

Will check in later, hopefully with wo.

Joan

hey all

Diets! I just wish I had someone to cook for me and then I could follow anything- but being in the kitchen is tough- I am either bored with the food by the time it is prepared, or I am snacking along the way.

Did STS Meso 2 first legs- she changes up everything- we are doing tri-sets now with minimal rest in between- goes by fast!:p:p

Does anyone do yoga? I think I need a good stretch

Have a great evening everyone, Beth

Beth I think having a live in cook would be wonderful too! I took yoga a while back. I loved it.

Joan I would love to hear more about that diet. Especially with this wedding getting so close!

Magnolia I told the kids about the pick pockets. They are going to one of those Sandals resorts. Apparently when you do that you can't go outside the resort... unless to another resort. They are getting very excited about that vacation!

I did Get lean intervals today plus 15 minutes on the treadmill. I always like to burn at least 300 calories on my cardio days. :)

Hi, Y'All.

I did Burn Circuit 2 today, and must have been truly working, because my muscles were really shaking! I know I need to work harder, but I wonder if cutting out carbs with these workouts is a good idea. I'm thinking that maybe either following the CLX food plan or just having a small amount of carbs in the morning might be a better.

Jann, I'm sure they'll really have a wonderful time. Jamaica is a beautiful place. Even though I've never visited a Sandal's resort, I've heard they are really nice.

I think I need a nap. Have a great afternoon, Ladies.

Magnolia

Hi everyone,

Taking a short break from work.

Beth I am getting the Seattle Sutton meal plan for my mother and husband. It is working great. It is prepared meals that is 2000 calories for the day. It takes 1-2 minutes in the microwave to cook. It comes with everything but milk. My mother and I split the breakfast. She eats 1/2 lunch and 1/2 dinner. She only needs about 1000 calories in a day. I give my dh both the 1/2 lunch and 1/2 dinner for his evening meal. I only need a little more fruit around and dh cereal and oj for his breakfast. And I don't have to cook.:D Of course that means I can eat all the girl scout cookies.

Jann here is the 4 day diet from the book-

1 Avoid salt, salt based seasonings and highly processed foods.
2 Avoid excess carbs such as pasta, bananas, bagels and pretzels to temporarily train your body to access this stored glycogen fuel and burn it off. At the same time, you'll be getting rid of excess stored fluid.
3 Avoid bulky raw foods. A 1/2c serving of cooked carrots delivers the same nutrition as 1c raw but takes up less room in your GI tract. Eat only cooked veg., smaller portions of unsweetened dried fruit, and canned fruits in natural juices.
4 Avoid gassy foods. They include legumes, cauliflower, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, onions, pepeprs, and citrus fruits.
5 Avoid chewing gum.
6. Avoid Sugar alcohols. They cause gas, abdominal distention, and bloating.
7. Avoid fried foods.
8. Avoid spicy foods. Seasoned with black pepper, nutmeg, cloves, chili powder, hot sauces, onions, garlic, nustard, chili, bb sauce, horseradish, catsup, tomato sauce or vinegar.
9. Avoid carbonated drinks.
10 Avoid alcohol, coffee, tea hot cocoa, and acidic fruit juices

Hi Magnolia

Joan

Oh my gosh Joan, thank you for taking the time to write all of this!! I almost already do everything they said to avoid. I don’t do fried, spicy, salt, or coffee the only carbs are pastas and cereal. I drink a lot of water. I am not sure I could drink that Sassy water. I have a really hard time with anything but plain water. I found that out when I was suppose to go on clear liquids, I don’t like clear liquids. It was tough. I guess I am not bloated - just fat. :p

Magnolia I know what you mean about shaking! Those one legged squats - I could never cut out carbs. I wouldn’t have any energy. :)

Burn circuit 3 for me today. Then I am going outside to work in my garden. I CAN’t wait! :D It's a me day.
Have a good one girls!

Good Morning All,

Jann What is your weather if you can work in garden? Two days ago it was 80 degrees and today in the 30's here. You're right about 4 day diet, it is the things to avoid that work. I certainly wouldn't eat dried or canned fruit in the long term or give up my green tea. I have been adding more almonds and pumpkin seeds into my diet.

Magnolia I eat my carbs also. I just try to have some protein at the same time.

I ended up working until 3:00am and no wo. I doubt that I will take a "rest week".

Joan

Back again,

I was the babysitter again tonight. Dil had a miscarriage. She has to go to doctor again tomorrow for ultrasound. Fortunately I don't have appointments on Friday so I can take Elliot who also had a doctors appointment. Elliot has a fever and bad cold.

It was 20 degrees last night and my furnace went out.

Joan

Good Morning, Ladies.

Joan, so sorry to hear about the miscarriage! I hope she will be okay. Also sorry to hear that your furnace went out. We had 20 degree temps last night, too.

I did Burn Intervals and Ab Burner yesterday. It was a lot tougher than it looked, but I made it through. So I did Burn Circuit 3 this morning. I have to go much lighter on the overhead presses because I have arthritis in my left shoulder. Makes it a challenge to work out, but I just have to use lighter weights for that move and really concentrate on form.

I hope you all have a great day!

Magnolia

Joan I am so sorry about the miscarriage. {{Joan}} I also hope everyone will be alright. Maintaining house hold crap can be a real challenge! I hope you can get that furnace fixed. I live in Maryland. It was in the 40’s yesterday. I broke a sweat working in the garden. I have a few more hours to get it spring ready though. I LOVE working in my yard. :D

Magnolia I go light on overhead presses also. So you have done a full first week of the Burn phase. Do you like it so far? Some of the gals I started CLX with originally, dropped after the burn phase. Couldn’t take the outfits, having to count their own reps, the same exercises for 4 weeks. I am used to counting my own reps and I think Charlene outfits look great on her, and I like knowing what is in store for me. Not saying I could only do these workouts for ever and ever. They just have a likable quality for me right now. And I get my Cathe fix on cardio days and I have added some interval DVD’s in instead of the Burn Intervals every week. :)

I am taking today as a rest day. My back is a bit tight from all of the bending over yesterday while doing yard work. I got to get my body back in shape for gardening! :p

Hi Ladies!

Just got caught up on what's going on. Joan, I am so sorry to hear about the miscarriage and your appliance issues. But thank you for the seattle food idea.

Jann, did you get your treadmill and fat burn done?

I ran a 15k today. The Gate River Run- it was so much fun. My friend and I decided last Tuesday to do it. It took me 2 hours and 18 minutes but the course was great and it was so exiting- oiver 15000 people and bands all along the way. My body is incredibly sore though, and not from the run. The meso 2 STS is tough! I did the back and biceps 2 days ago and I am still sore. Boy, I better look like Cathe when I am done.

Magnolia, I tried the no/low carb thing a few weeks ago and I had to go back to at least some oatmeal and breakfast- otherwise, I was tired and my mood was not good.

I need so sleep- so good night everyone! Beth:D:D

Good morning everyone,

Beth :D:DGreat run:D:D What do you think of Meso 2? I haven't previewed yet. I really like the fast pace of Meso 1.

Thankfully furnace was an easy fix. After what happened to my car I was expecting to have to buy a new furnace too.

Jann Fortunately it hasn't been warm long enough for me to get the "I have to get out in the garden and plant something " urge.:D I try to put off even thinking about yard until April 15, but I love working in garden also.

Yea only one more month to end of tax season.:D:D It is very frustrating not having time to wo. I'm not wasting time either. Dh and I go out to eat only on Friday night. I go to grocery store once a week and dh runs vacuum cleaner. (That's full extent of cleaning until May) I don't even watch any tv. The washer and dryer are in a closet in my office so I don't even have to stop work for that. Since I make 90% of my income in 10 weeks I have to get a year's worth of work in. I'm done with my rant.
Unfortunately, after tax season I am exhausted ( more mentally than physically) and won't want to do anything. I will expect everyone here to nag me if I don't wo 6 times a week.

Magnolia, My right shoulder has always been a problem, but only with some exercises. So far with sts I only have minor pain.

I will check in later with wo.

Joan

Hi, Ladies.

Jann, I like the Burn phase so far. I really don't mind counting reps, and those moves are a challenge to me. I have to constantly think about form and how slowly I need to move to get the results I want, so I don't find it boring. I think doing some interval training at least once a week is a good idea, but I'd rather do a Cathe than the other cardio (Burn It Off) in the rotation, and I really prefer Cathe's Total Body Stretch video to "Recharge." The outfits aren't an issue with me--I think Chalene looks great in what she wears. I have weight to lose, and the way the 60-year-old (Donna) looks in what she wears is an inspiration to me. Also, I tried two of the recipes in the food guide, the Goat Cheese Omelet and the Cowboy Steak with Roasted Mushrooms and Onions. They were very easy to make, and my DH and I really loved them! Going to try some more of them.

I lost a pound since last Monday, but I just can not leave off carbs totally, so if I have to lose slowly, I will. After all, in Aesop's fable, the tortoise did eventually win the race!

Taking a rest day today. Hope you all have a great afternoon!

Magnolia

P.S. My son arrives at Ft. Hood, TX today--in April, he gets reassigned to Ft. Benning, Georgia near his wife and son. Whew!! Thanks be to God!
