4 year old acting up: could it be because of the baby?

Hi,

My son has been so excited about having a baby brother, but lately he has been throwing major tantrums. I thought it was because he was tired, but it has happened so many times that I wonder if it has to do with the arrival of the baby. He gets lots of love from us and we have made him a big part of having the baby, letting him make decisions. Yet, we continue to make him feel special. I have even asked him if he is jealous, and he says no. But he is 4, so would he know that was making him act up.

Any advice?

A quick answer ,Yes!!! Despite you and hubby doing everything right, at 4 your child knows that things are changing. Additionally, you are probably not yourself due to fatigue. A 4 year old is probably not able to connect with his feelings and even know that he is jelous. I would wait it out, but still discipline him. Additionally , when baby is sleeping do a special activity with him. There are some great books out there too. I got the one aout a big sister but I know there is one entitled I am a big brother . He is acting like a normal child! Oh, so my advice sounds credible, I am a therapist who works with kids as well as adults. I am a liscenced social worker.
