    Why can't I wear heels?!

I wore 1-inch, well made, cushioned heels today to a meeting with a client and my feet are just killing me. Plus, my back was killing me just from wearing my heels while sitting at my desk. I wear clogs most of the time--I guess I'm spoiled by them. But I really would like to look professional...

    Running

I powerwalk 5 miles on my treadmill. I tape a whole bunch of shows each week, mostly on fitness-related stuff or What Not To Wear. Then I put on closed captioning so that I can watch TV and listen to music at the same time. I've done this for years now and have yet to be bored. Oh, and at one...

what do your husbands (or SO) think of your body?

Maybe it's insecurity. Maybe it's personal preferences. Maybe he had a traumatic experience with a muscular woman as a child. Who knows?! We can speculate all we want based on our own experiences, but, really, it's impossible to say what's behind his comments without actually talking to the man...

    Band failure!

Heh, no, it didn't hit me at all. Just wound up wiht each half in my hand. I bought it at the local health food store. Going to go to a good sporting goods store tomorrow and get a new one. I've had the band since the Gym Styles came out--last year? It's had the tiny split in it for a long...

    Band failure!

My band snapped in half right in the middle of the shoulder work in GS--my favorites, too! It only had a tiny little rip in the middle, but one pull and whap! I finished with 3 pound weights. I love band work.

Exercise & DNA Damage- Hot Topic!

My initial thought is that he should probably stick to anethesiology and not go off making statements about things he is not an expert in. You have to wonder what sort of scientific evidence he has to back up his statement--evidence that somehow ALL the scientists in this country who actually...

Attraction for spouse who's let himself go

I agree with the suggestion of using positive reinforcement. I've been nagging my BF for what seems like forever, but what really worked was the compliments--noticing muscle development or weight loss or eating better. He is actually doing regular cardio now and watching his diet, despite...

    No Sweets Mar 23rd

Ok, maybe I should be on the "eat chocolate" checkin, because I did wind up eating one of those mini hershey bars today. Guess that's better than my usual two bars plus some other sort of dessert at lunch. I did manage to stay away from two trays of cookies and candy--one at the office, the...

    No Sweets Mar 23rd

I have meetings all day at work, including one that's out of the office, so at least I will be far from the stash of chocolates in our HR person's office.

Does anyone want to join me??

Heh...can I do it as a no sweets at work check-in? I don't think I could completely give up my nightly cookies with my tea, but I really need to stop eating the chocolates and assorted garbage at work!

Nancy and other NY City dwellers

Wow, Lorrie. Sounds like a lot of fun. Where is Blue Hill located? Did you get to do anything/see anything else? As for the hotel and gym, that rots!! Definitely give a yell here next year before you come in--I am almost certina that some of the gyms here have a weekend "pass" type of deal...

    Anyone use a SitFit?

I was poking around the Sissel-online site and found this--looks really interesting, and I'm thinking it would be great to have for work, where I sit so much. Does anyone have this and use it? Thanks! http://www.sissel-online.com/models/934_jsf-450.php

    More about clothes

I had to update my badly outdated wardrobe a few years ago, so most of my clothes are now things that I actually wear (that and I also moved, and donated most of the old things that I don't wear anymore). Still, I do find that I have favorite outfits that I wear over and over, wearing them out...

Please somebody help me help someone else

I'm so sorry to hear of your situation--it sounds very stressful. I just wanted to add that I agree about the hospice suggestion. It helped my mother get through the last months of her life with cancer and it helped my father deal with her death. Also, if you can, talk to your dad's...

    Speaking of Aging...Clothes?

Skirts that fall below my knee make me look short and dumpy. I go for just at the knee or slightly above. And I agree--finding shorts in the summer is a pain in the rear. I need at least one pair of decent fitting, appropriate shorts to wear to the company picnic! All I have are a really...

    Speaking of Aging...Clothes?

For formal clothes, I've actually had a lot of success at Ann Taylor. A bit on the expensive side, but then they're also always having sales. They tend to have a lot of cute dresses that are knee length (or above) and not necessarily with spaghetti straps, which I can't wear. I hate really...

    Can't Believe This Weather

Welcome to Farch. At least it goes out like a lamb. :) Personally, I think March, not April, is the cruelest month.

    Speaking of Aging...Clothes?

That's basically what I do right now, Lisa. Not so much the department stores because I'm too lazy to go to them...but I search through other stores, trying on all sorts of stuff to try to find something that looks good. It's just frustrating, though--you would think that there would be stores...

    Speaking of Aging...Clothes?

The aging gracefully thread got me wondering: A few people said they don't want to get older and look like the stereotypical old woman (or for me, the stereotypical middle-aged woman). But I have the hardest time finding casual clothes. At 46, I don't want to dress in dumpy polyester pants on...
