Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 3/31/2024

going to do a short mt bike this morning. its pretty cold again but we want to try to get a few more miles before we go on a vacation. would like to take bikes but weather if iffy. I can ride in a little dusting of snow but not in an unknown place. mostly we will be hiking but its nice to have bikes as an alternate.

a lot of offices use a remote "scheduling service". people scheduling appointments do not work in the actual office you are using, but they do it centrally at another location for multiple offices. I don't know if this is a regional thing? scheduled visits have time limits. example, 15 min, 30 minute and 45 minute appointments. the schedule is set up for no deviation. if someone needs more time, or is late or it takes longer than planned, if messes up everything after. when scheduling was done in the actual office, the doc will know if someone is more complicated and needs longer time. our dentist office knows my cleaning appt is short, but DH's is twice as long but the scheduling service does not accommodate differences like that. so im done in 30 min, and DH takes the full hour.

I had all the lab testing to identify if I had autoimmune disease but no, plain old osteo arthritis. ugh.
keep on keeping on. will replace parts as needed.

DH and I dont always agree on what to toss and what to keep. I want to get rid of all the dishes and glassware we never use but he wont do it. if I havent used it in 30 years, im not going to now.

This morning I did RWH Chest, Triceps and Shoulders, 2 sets with no finishers. My time was 35 minutes and 102 calories burned. Then I did the Chair Stretch from Step Boss for an additional 16 minutes.

My dentist moved to a larger office a year ago, something that was needed. A few things have changed since then, but this scheduling situation is new. It’s just as Valerie described. Some scheduling is done in the office, but the template is managed off site.

Cathy, nice job with STS 2 Super Sets Total Body.

Diane Sue, great job with Raw Box for Your Waistline, CDorner Mobility, and Step Boss Chair Stretch.

Valerie, I hope that you have a nice ride today.

Waving hello to Judy.

Decent ride this morning about 6.5 miles. got to the lake we havent seen in a year and were rewarded with a pair of hooded mergansers. took a different route to get to the lake. found several new roads. not sure where they go or if they will be useful. kinda cold out, 42 ish, but ok.
Carolyn medical offices schedule that way . sometimes it works ok and sometimes its just beyond stupid.

Diane sue when you talk about hand troubles....have you tried arthritis gloves? my hand specialist recommended them. they are helpful. they're snug fitting cotton/poly/spandex gloves. I get half fingered. ones and wear them sleeping. I use a cream first with CBD /THC . gloves keep it in place. Cannabis is legal in WA for decades so depends on laws where you live. its believed to have anti-inflammatory properties. Ive used it for years. I have very dry skin. if nothing else, it helps that. the gloves/cannabis combo educes swelling and irritation for me. a million choices on amazon. I can get the brand of the gloves if you're interested. you can find the product by looking for "arthritis gloves" on amazon. the cream is Dragon and available at cannabis outlets. I dont care for cannabis otherwise but it might help my hand arthritis.

I did Coffey Fit Raw Fine Tuning workout today. She just put it up recently. It is slow paced and focuses on minor muscle groups to prep for heavier workouts. She uses 5# dumbbells and she adds ankle weights, but says you do not need them. This worked things like rotator cuff, scapular area, and core with balance. This was supposed to be 36 minutes, but buffered and I ended up with 43 minutes, 115 calories, heart rate 93/123. That is all I did as I am tired. I may go back and do some yoga or stretching since I did not have time as I needed to fix food for my husband since he went in to work early.
I have my field vision test bright and early in the morning so need to go to bed early.
It seems most of the medical, dental, and even the eyecare places use remote scheduling and a system that messages patients for reminders or filling paperwork prior. If I had not looked at the cardiovascular doctors site I would have missed that they moved my appointment to a different day and time. I tried to change online and it sent me to their office number. You get a human and I seem to get some busy and grumpy ones. Wonder what happened to kindness and compassion. When I went to the imaging place Friday, the lady was grumbling while she was putting in my information and updating residence. She said something about too busy and not enough time. When I bought the paperwork I filled out up to the desk she was gone and someone else finished. Must have been a stressful day or something.

Valerie, could you post a link to the gloves. I did not know they made arthritis gloves. I have not used CBD products. I am pretty sure you can get ointments here. I purchase products from a place not far from me called Ultra Botanika that has health segments on Youtube. They have Hemp Tinctures you put under your tongue and a hemp curcumin capsule. I have not tried them. I have used several of their other curcumin products. They have a patented formula and sell products for cancer patients. A friend told me about them as her doctor that is a MD also does naturopathic medicine and has her using some of it. I have used some things like Volteran and Herbal Manna Frankincense DMSO gel for pain. I just worry about using it on my hands and getting it somewhere that I shouldn't since both products want you to clean the site for application and wash your hands before and after. I guess because it goes through the skin into the system. Works okay on my knees. They have medical cannibus facilities around every corner. Never used it and I think they are too lax on who they dispense to in those facilities. My left wrist swells and sometimes I think my Garmin watch is aggravating it even though I wear it loose during the day. My wrist sometimes burns and stings. Makes it hard when I am doing yoga moves on my hands.
Great job on the 6.5 mile ride today. Lucky that you got to see hooded mergansers while you were out. I wish that I could have went for the walks my husband and I talked about on our vacation. It would have been a lot of climbing on rocks. the falls at Turner falls was just 3/4 mile away. My husband climbed down and walked around a bit and got some pictures over the waters where they were flowing and the sun hitting them lit up the sulpher in the water so it was gold. He said he did not see any fish below our cabin. We were on a steep cliff overlooking the water flowing down falls creek.

Carolyn, nice job on RWH Chest, triceps and shoulders and Step Boss Chair stretch. I had to go on the workout manager to find which dvd had that chair stretch. I could not remember which one.

Hi to Judy and Cathy.

Tuesday I did Cathe Live #366, PHA Supersets #2 No Repeats. Yesterday I did 30 minutes of Peloton mobility work and today I worked an 8 hour shift at HD. I'm off tomorrow. I think we are going out to breakfast so I will probably get my workout done later in the day.

Cathy-Great job with Live Jabs and Abs, Stretch Max 3, and STS 2 Super Sets Total Body. I started doing Duolingo during the pandemic. I have a 1,458 day streak. I don’t try to maintain streaks with any other game/app but I really got hooked on that one in 2020. I’ve never heard of the Huron Mountain Club. I had to look that up.

Diane Sue-I just ordered 2 pair of arthritis gloves from Amazon. My hands have been bothering me more recently and I thought they might help. I have the voltaren cream but I haven’t tried it yet. Here are the gloves I got:
Amazon.com: Doctor Developed Compression Gloves for Women and Men/Open-Finger Arthritis Gloves/Typing Gloves/Hand Compression Gloves for Arthritis & Carpal Tunnel, With Doctor Handbook (Grey, S) : Health & Household

Amazon.com: Copper Compression Arthritis Gloves | Fingerless Arthritis Carpal Tunnel Pain Relief Gloves For Men & Women | Hand Support Wrist Brace For Rheumatoid, Tendonitis, Swelling, Crocheting, Typing (S) : Health & Household
Arthritis is rough. If mine gets any worse I will probably think about going to a specialist. Great job with Raw Box for Your Waistline, CDorner Mobility, Step Boss Chair Stretch and Raw Fine Tuning. The Raw Fine Tuning sounds like one I should do, with the rotator cuff work.

Carolyn-Great job with RWH Back, Biceps, and Shoulders, 2 sets and no finishers, RWH Chest, Triceps and Shoulders, 2 sets with no finishers and the Step Boss Chair Stretch. I agree about the poll results, they are what I expected too. That sounds crazy, scheduling dental appointments every 20 minutes. I can’t imagine that will work well.

Valerie-That’s terrible about the accident that you came across. Great job with your rides.
I’m hoping the arthritis gloves will help. I’ve had arthritis in my hands for some time but it seems to be getting a little worse.

2 Pairs Arthritis Gloves Fingerless Compression Gloves for Relieve Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis, Carpal Tunnel, Joint Pain for Women and Men to Daily Work (Gray, Medium)

Brand: Cedcoe

judy those look like the ones I got.

no clue if this link works! certainly long enough. just go to amazon and look for "Arthritis gloves". the brand I bought was Cedcoe. there are many many options!. I got cotton poly spandex and skipped the copper. some have grippers on the palm. I dont use them during the day so went with simple. they were $14 for 2 pair. make sure you measure. according to it I should use a small but I found them too tight and got a medium instead. my knuckles are large. I've heard capsaicin cream might help but Im worried about using it on my hands and then getting it in my eyes. I have other hand issues that may require surgery eventually. had carpal tunnel surgery on the left and also have dupuytrens contractures on that hand and raynauds. the thumb joint is not great either. I'm right handed and the right hand is better.

there are few restrictions on cannabis products here. Age mainly. I use it every night and put the gloves on over to keep it in place. the compression by the gloves helps with swelling.

Im trying to think of ANY dental appointment I ever had that was over in 20 minutes. cant think of any! always at least half an hour and usually longer.

This morning I did Cardio Party for 39 minutes and 279 calories burned. My average heart rate was 132 and maximum heart rate was 160.

Valerie, great job with the 6.5 mile ride and getting to see the lake that you haven’t seen in a year.

Diane Sue, great job with Coffeyfit Raw Fine Tuning. Good luck with the field vision test today.

Judy, great job with Live PHA Supersets and Peloton mobility work.

Hello to Cathy.

No workout today. I did my field vision test and errands then lunch with my husband. I ordered the compression gloves and also ordered the copper ones that Judy got. I read on the copper ones that the gloves can help trigger finger. My two middle fingers have started locking up on me and hard to pry them open. Hoping it helps

Carolyn, nice work on Cardio Party this morning.

This morning I did Muscle Meltdowns Triceps & Biceps, some shoulder pt work and 10 minutes of core work.

Valerie- Those gloves look good. I took the copper ones to work. I might end up ordering the ones you bought too. It can’t hurt to have a few extra pairs.

Carolyn-Great job with Cardio Party.

Diane Sue-I hope the gloves help.

Hi to Cathy

I wear gloves for a lot of things. reynauds can pop up if I get slightly cold, and cause numbness. it sometimes comes up when riding, due to the extra pressure from gripping handlebars. I started using a handwarmer packet for one hand to prevent it. I wear gloves to stay warmer in cold weather, gloves for sun protection the rest of the year. gardening gloves for dirty jobs. i wear weight gloves for lifting or for cardio equipment because the handles can give me calluses. knuckles are enlarged and can get puffy besides and the nightime compression helps. fingers work ok and no function problems or enlargement. took the day off today mostly and only did a few sets of different curls and some packing and food prep.

Judy its amazing how fast gloves get dirty. a few pairs are a good plan. especially if you end up wearing at work.

we are heading off on a trip tomorrow and I may or may not be around. we will be out of range a good part of the time. just FYI.

Good evening. This has been an unusually busy day for me, however that didn’t include a work out. Errands, dealing with a prescription problem for my husband and baking bread for the week. I made a loaf of buttermilk bread and some hamburger buns. We had turkey, spinach, and feta burgers for dinner.

I hope that you all have had a wonderful day.

Today I did Raw Real Raw Box and Pump 2 which is boxing and upper body weights, 42 minutes, heart rate 125/150, 198 calories, 2,250 steps. I finished with CDorner Mobility challenge day 3 lower body stretch and day 24 neck and upper back mobility, 29 minutes, 45 calories. Total time was 71 minutes, 243 calories. I cannot find Box and Pump on my raw documents. I do have it in my notebook, but don't feel like dragging it out right now to post my workout. I love this workout. Fast boxing and good music along with weights.
I got my gloves today.

Judy. nice work with Muscle Meltdown biceps and triceps, shoulder pt and 10 minutes core work. I got my gloves today and am wearing the copper ones. Odd that both pair are medium, and I measured as it showed. The copper ones are looser than the other compression ones. I like them though. I think I will get some more as well.

Valerie, I hope you have a nice trip. I remember Kelly Coffey mentioning something that she has that makes her hands feel like they were in ice. I had asked her once if the gloves she wore when she was doing things like step were weighted gloves and she said no. She doesn't seem to wear them in the workouts as much as she did. I have a pair of lifting gloves that are supposed to support the wrists well. I don't use them much because the velcro scratches my wrists along the edges. They do limit movement in the wrists. I figure I need more pairs of gloves because I already got the pair I have on dirty when the touched the edge of the yogurt container this evening. I will wear the tighter pair to bed tonight. My left wrist has been burning the last two days.

Carolyn, it sounds like you got a lot done today. The bread and burgers sound delicious. I made my husband a low carb salisbury steak dinner. I made egg bites this morning so there is enough for a few days.
