Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 12/9

Crappy night. I woke up at 1:15 and was not able to get back to sleep. went on the couch and started reading, maybe slept a couple of hours, then got up at 4:30. Dogs not to blame this time. I actually woke them up when I went downstairs.

Garance, I'm reading NYPD Red by James Patterson. Nice easy fast read. I too would really like to see some clips of the new workouts. All the pre-mixes are listed now. Cathe has outdone herself with this series.

Valerie, LOL about the suntan lotion. I think it actually made you burn more! I didn't get the results yet of Keegan's UA. Should be today. I hope he doesn't have a UTI or any crystals. The crystals are what develop into stones.

Lori, I would definitely not feel guilty for not doing a workout if I had done 2 the day before!

What's everyone doing this weekend? Shopping?

A long day ahead,

Remember Coppertone suntan oil, Sea & SKi? it was just lotion, nothing that blocked anything. I don't live in a real warm place, so get a "hiker tan" with arms & legs but not much else. I use sunscreen diligently early in the season especially if on snow but once I get some color I back off. I refuse to combine sunscreen and bug juice and that's the choice. so unpleasant! lightweight nylon shirts/ pants work best to combat both bugs and sun.

Did Afterburn premix yesterday. and also a segment of Abs from the 3 part Ab disk. the pace on parts is too fast, seems almost frantic. I'm not out of breath but I can't g go that fast! I hadn't done it in a while so decided one run thru each segment was better to remind myself. the one move I can't do is dragging staggered pushups. can't keep my feet in that position and move, so reg pushups instead. the disk was in the wrong box with AT so rotating it back into the mix.

Today getting my hair done and a costco run in the morning. always less crowded early.

I don't read as much as I used to. I can't read with my contacts in anymore, and don't like to take them in/ out all the time, so serious reading is done early morning or late. if I'm home I often don't put lenses in at all . I'm one of the weitdos who sees close very well, need lenses only for distance. I used to be able to still read OK with lenses in, but it's getting more difficult. I can do it, but not reading for pleasure. I never adapted to glasses at all. I have a pair for 20+ years ( for emergencies) but have worn them no more than seconds at the optometrist office

I went to my sculpt class last night. No workout today, it is my day off. We are going to our Christmas lunch today to Maggiano’s. Amazing Italian food!

I will be taking a yoga class tomorrow and a sculpting and barr class on Sunday. My DH and I are going to Palm Spring tomorrow to see Dave Koz and friends for his annual Christmas concert and a little gambling, it is at the Agua Calient casino. Deb, you might want to check it out when you are here. Let m know what days you are going to be in Palm Spring and I might be able to get away and meet you 

Have a great weekend everyone!

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, and Lori--

This morning I did KCM's Plateau Busters, both workouts (45 min.).

Valerie, I remember using baby oil or Coppertone. I never burned, partially because I spent most of my time in the water and hated "sunbathing." But I tan pretty easily, too. I started using a sunblock in my 20s because I was going out with this very hypochondriacal fellow who was religious about it, even though the only stuff available at the time would stain everything. It started with a P and was very liquid--yucky stuff, but I used it anyway, partially because he scared me about melanomas, partially just to placate him. Glad we broke up.

Deb, I would be exhausted if I were you. I don't know how you do it. Another comfort Sunday meal with a Mexican theme this time. It looks really good. I think I will go see The Sessions. Maybe some baking too, although I will probably do most of it next week. I'm reading a very funny "thriller" by Lincoln Barclay--Bad Move. Apparently this is the first in a series about this amiable worrywart who falls into dangerous situations. I may read another one before turning to Louise Erdrich's The Roundhouse, which just won the National Book Award. I also want to read Zadie Smith's NW because I love her earlier stuff. Deb, where did you see a listing of all the premixes?

Lori, wow, that's a lot of working out.

I remember as a kid using baby oil and iodine! Still can't believe we did that. We just did not know any better I guess.

Traildoggie...I am the same way with my eyes. Just last year I stopped wearing my contacts out of fustration because I could not read anything. Swear it happened overnight. Always read fine then it seemed all of a sudden I needed reading glasses to read while wearing my contacts. Without my contacts I can read the finest print and at work I do mostly do computer work I pretty much walk around blind all day!

No workout today. Dog kept us up AGAIN!!! I am exhausted.

I have a kindle and love to read. I also have an Audible account and like to listen to books while I commute to work and walk my dog so I usually have a couple of books going at once. For the month of December I like to read all types of christmas stories.

What did you think of the xtrain clip today? Looks like fun!

Good morning!

So glad the weekend is here. LOL about the "suntanning" memories from the past. Not only did we mix baby oil with iodine, we used to cover LP record covers, ( the double ones) with aluminum foil and use it as a reflector putting it around your neck and face!! Unbeliveable.

I saw the clip from Supercuts...WOW Cathe makes it look so easy. I would love to be able to do those moves with so little effort. I guess it's something you definitely need to work up to.

Garance, the listing of the pre-mixes is with each description of the DVD'. click on the big icon where the Pre-sale is shown, and it takes you to the listing of all the workouts, then when you click on one, it shows up just like they do over at Shop Cathe. I'm going to look up that series that you are reading...I love reading books that are part of a series. The story just continues...

Lori, I think your dog and mine must be in communication or something! They got DH up around 1:30 last night but I was so exhausted I didn't even hear them get up.

Going out for breakfast then meeting with our financial guy. He has to figure out how I am going to retire by July 1...:) Hope whatever he comes up with is good.

Take care,

Josie, I will be getting into Palm Springs Feb 10-leaving on Feb 14

Lori& Deb... that is so funny, we used baby oil and iodine too... never did a thing as far as I could tell. amazing how ideas like that spread everywhere even before communication toools like we have now. I didn't do the foil/LP thing though... didn't have any LP's until I was older.

Lori, I see my eye doc next week. I tried bifocal lenses once but they were clunky and awful. I keep reading glasses around so if I need to do close work and can't take my lenses out, I have backup.... like if we're driving somewhere and I need to read a map, especially small roads, not interstates. (yes, too many completely wrong directions from GPS units... maps are still better especially in less populated areas.) it's funny though. if the light is bright I do OK, and early in the day too. I read the newspaper with a headlamp when DH is driving and it's still OK. if light is dim or later in the day when I'm getting tired I'm more likely to grab the readers. DH doesn't wear glasses at all but needs readers for small things so we have them stashed everywhere. So.. I can still read with lenses but for pleasure reading I take them out. but I understand the issue.

Did S&G again yesterday. the first time I did everything except dragging pushups. I don't think the cardio is anywhere near the others from that series, but the ab work is really effective for me. It's been a goal to get all the burpee/mountain climbers, and also the similar AB move later on. I've been trying to breathe better in plank position. for mt climbers I tend to hold my breath which has made them harder than they are.

Lynda, my SIL is a melanoma survivor. she's quite fair and lives in Fresno. pretty hard not to get a lot of sun there. she's had it diagnosed early .. it's about 25 yrs ago now. I hate the feeling of most sunscreens so have evolved toward nylon clothing and hats/visors so I don't have to feel coated with the stuff. the newer products are way better than the old slippery stuff.

I haven't looked at the clip from the new series yet so off to take a peek.

among other things I'm not seeing where the clip is posted. I'll look again but someone give me a hint.

Also, I'm not out of touch with the current horrible news regarding the shootings. I did not feel well myself today so decided not to post about it.

Did cardio supersets with the bonus step the finished off with athletic training abductor/hamstring with the firewalker band. Then walked chester 3.5 miles. Hoping he is exhausted as I am tonight so we can both sleep!

Been devasted over the shootings in CT. My heart breaks for all the families who lost their children and loved ones yesterday.
