Damage Control May!

So nice to hear from you LL. Beth and I decided to start up the thread again. We kept the name the same in hopes that you and Tina might pop in if you saw it. Your kids are growing up fast.

Yesterday I did BR w/o in the morning and STS Disc 4-CSB at lunch. My arms were so tired after this one. I've upped my weights and it was tough. I still dislike pushups as too many tend to bother my shoulder and this w/o seemed to have a ton of them. I do what I can as long as my shoulder isn't bothering me. If I feel a twinge of pain, I stop.

We have friends in town from Nebraska/South Dakota and we were up way too late visiting with them. We had a nice dinner at Chili's and I had 6oz sirloin and salad. This may end up being a rest day. I have an ortho appointment this morning and I think our friends are coming over today too. DH is taking today off.

Hello!

Glad to see you checking in again, LL. Have you started driving lessons yet? 2 baseball teams! You are still super busy with the boys. And you're keeping up with Cathe!

Diana, nice going with STS! In the spirit of it I did the STS cardio Boxing today. It makes me feel like my upper body is getting a little workout in when I do kickboxing and the pool. I've completely given up trying to do push ups-even against the wall. Holding weights is working my arms too, right?!

Did I tell you about our PSU trip on Tuesday? I can't remember. Anyway-I had no legitimate workout just a short walk when we got home. So this week I'll have two rest days (Sunday and Tuesday). Hoping for a bike ride tomorrow and an STS leg workout Saturday.

Glad you're getting in a nice visit with your friends. I've never eaten at a Chili's; but I did work at a Chi Chi's in college! Those were the days of fried ice cream...yikes.

Beth

Yesterday I did BR RTC day 29 and STS Disc 5-Back & Triceps. Today I completed the BR RTC challenge with day 30! I followed that up with STS disc 6-legs. I'm beat. Time to eat and shower. Then I'm heading to Costco and kohl's. Not sure if I will go grocery shopping today or tomorrow.

Beth-sounds like you are doing great. I recall my arms, shoulders and back being very tired when I first started swimming. All this bike talk has me wanting to dust off my bike, fill up my tires and ride.

LL-what are you up to this weekend?

bbl

My Friday bike ride was tough. My right leg is still weaker and continues to ache today. So Sat. I just did the elliptical for 1/2 and hour at the gym. Today will just be a walk. Naturally I used the arms on the elliptical and it felt fine. Today my shoulder hurts. I probably just should have done the pool, but didn't feel like getting wet!

Diana, congrats on the BR 30 day challenge! Plus STS?! You definitely need to rest. Are you meal prepping this weekend? I made a big scramble for breakfast today with the leftovers from a bag of broccoli and carrots, a bag of green beans, and some roasted potatoes and onions. It should good for two more breakfasts. Dinners have been bean based or salads and some salmon.

Soccer is over for this year. My team will play in European league next year :)

Beth

Beth-How long will it take to get your strength back in your leg? Has you PT given you exercises to help strengthen the weaker side? Your breakfast scramble sounds delicious. I need to get back to meal prepping. Other than breakfast, I just try to get a protein and fat in for lunch and dinner. I've been snacking on fruits and almond butter.

I need to get my eating back on track. Yesterday our friends from out of state came over. We ordered Chinese food for dinner. I had a little sesame chicken and crispy beef, and refrained from eating any egg rolls or fortune cookies.

Today has been a lazy day. I was up early and putzed around on the computer and did laundry. I ended up getting hungry before I could workout. I had a 1/2 C oatmeal w/1 scoop protein powder and 1 scoop collagen. Lifting weights after eating doesn't usually bother me so I did STS disc 4-CSB. I did much better with all the pushups this round. Now it's time to shower and head to the grocery store.

Diana, I had too much salt this past weekend as well. We had some kind of mixed crunchy (delicious) snacks at cards on Sat. night and then popcorn with salt last night. My hormones are out of whack, too. It felt like I was going to get my period (tender breasts and crampy feelings). Weird! I didn't get it and am contributing the feelings to salt. My PT said to just do what I want and do all the stretching and exercises he outlined for me to do at home. The only real strength type one is regular and reverse clams (45 per day each leg for each exercise). DH said I did the elliptical harder than he's ever seen anyone else do it at the gym-I thought I was doing it fairly easy. So I'm really not a good judge of how to exercise in an easier way.

I had a smoothie for breakfast and need to eat cleaner the next couple of days. Planning on cleaning some cupboards and working out then sitting in hot tub today. I'd like to do leg weights but will see what I feel like doing once I get dressed.

Beth

Beth-you are doing great! Those clams must be great exercises. My tri training partner has terrible hip issues and those were also prescribed for her PT. I usually pushed pretty hard on the elliptical too. I would do 30 seconds to a minute hard and then recover for 1 minute. I like to feel like I'm working plus it's kind of boring if you don't jazz it up some how.

My weight has breached a number I never wanted to see again. UGH. I did eat Chinese food leftovers for lunch yesterday and had 3 homemade peanut butter chocolate chip cookies. I've actually been struggling with my weight since I went to Ireland in March. I'm drinking plenty of water today and anticipate the scale going down at least a couple pounds fairly quickly. I'm also going to do a couple of days of cardio only in the morning instead of circuits and keep with my weight training at lunch. This morning I did BM2 Cardio Blast premix and lunch was STS disc 5-Back & Triceps. I'm hoping my knee doesn't hurting from the stepping. My day is jam packed with meetings tomorrow. I will try to do a short HIIT w/o in the morning and abs if I have time. I'm thinking HIIT DWP.

Breakfast-2 eggs and 1 egg white made into an omelette with 3/4 steamed artichokes.
S-1 C cherries
L-post workout protein shake
S-warrior bar w/ 1 tbsp. almond butter (cleanse recipe)
D-TBD

Waving hello to LL!

Have you ever gone backwards on the elliptical? I tried it Saturday to mix things up and it really worked my legs differently. I did 6 minutes forward-3 minutes backward for about a half an hour. Sometimes I try to do it no hands style to work my abs. I'm like you-gotta keep mixing it up to keep it interesting! Now you've got me wanting to do BM2-love the step in that one!

My shoulder is feeling ok again. It may have just been not using those muscles in so long. At this point, I'm happy to be able to do lower body and just hold weights and do some arms occasionally. Yesterday I did STS 12 legs and it felt great. Cathe does a good job of working and strengthening each leg. I'm planning on going back to disc 3 and just doing them all again. Today I'm taking a shorter bike ride-DH will continue on for a longer, but I think 30 minutes will be long enough for my leg.

Your menu was spot on yesterday. I have been looking at Mediteranean diets and cherries are one of the top ten foods. The others are: fish, chicken, mozarrella, chickpeas, spinach, parsley, pasta, tomatoes, and almonds. Then, of course, Authority Nutrition, was espousing the high protein diet this morning-60-75 grams/ day to keep muscle and build it as one ages. So many choices!

Beth

Today was Cardio Super sets Extreme. Such a fun sweat fest! Work is going well. They may be switching the whole schedule around to have only 8 hour shifts-yeah! I hope they do. It's so hard to fill a 12 hour spot and I don't think it's healthy for people to work that long.

Diana, jow did your long day of meetings go? Did you get a lunch break or workout in?

LL, what did you end up substituting for CCC on the rotation?

Beth

Great job Beth. Yes, when I use my elliptical I go both forward and back. Back focuses more on the hamstrings and glutes and forward is more quadriceps. I find machines boring so I continuously mix it up. I almost did Cardio Supersets this morning. I really like that STS works both sides independently. My left side is definitely weaker. I agree with you, working 12 hours isn't healthy. Would they use 3 shifts then to cover?

Yesterday I did X10, the X52 premix, then sat on my butt all day in meetings. I had an early meeting this morning. At lunch I did TTM Extreme premix and will try to get in Disc 6-legs later today. When my morning schedule is off my food isn't what it should be. I did get it turned around for lunch and have dinner planned.
B-banana sprinkled with cinnamon, 1tbsp almond butter and 1tbsp peanut butter
S-2 peanut butter chocolate chip cookies
L-2 eggs made into an open face omelette w/5 steamed brussel sprouts, 1/4 avocado, 1 can chicken breast chunks rinsed & drained
S-cherries
D-planning for tilapia and brussels sprouts

LL-what are you up to?

Today I did BR RTC Day1, and STS Disc 7-CSB. I've been increasing my weights with STS and am definitely feeling it. However I may need to drop down a tad as my form was suffering on the overhead presses with 20# db's. My left side is much weaker. I think I'll use 17's the next time and work on getting my left side a bit stronger.
B-open face 2 egg omelette w/1 can chicken breast (rinsed and drained), cherub tomatoes, 1/4 avocado
S-banana w/cinnamon and 2tbsp almond butter
L-post workout protein shake
S-2 peanut butter choc chip cookies
D-tilapia and brussels sprouts

Sounds like you're building some good muscle using 17-20 lbs.! And you're getting in lots of protein so you'll keep the muscle. Really, your meals all sound so good and there is peanut butter in the cookies!

I'm rolling along with fit bit walking, lighter weights, lots of stretching and shoulder rehab exercises. I did laps in the pool yesterday for 20 minutes and was beat. It definitely felt more total body doing laps as opposed to treading water. I've had a pretty low impact week so far-STS, bike, Cardio SS, pool, walking. When I work I have been eating at around 9AM and 5PM-so two meals a day. My weight is good. I've been drinking close to a gallon of water a day! I'm still having sore breasts. Started after I put yogurt back in my diet. Do you think that would cause it? Another theory is that I'm losing muscle and have more fat and the extra fat cells have estrogen and that's causing it. Or is it just hormones? I can find nothing on the internet about it except for anecdotes which I don't really trust.

Beth

Hi Diana!

Yesterday I did BM 2 just the warm up, step segments, and the finished product. It was about 45 minutes. I've been getting my steps in at work so feel pretty accomplished.

I'm probably taking today off or just walking. Made another huge scramble today. Want to center my diet around vegetables with protein.

What are you up to this weekend? Have Monday off?

Beth

Kudos to you!! Swimming laps for 20 minutes is impressive!! I've dealt with tender breasts for a long time. I started wearing a jog bra to bed and that seemed to help. It could also be hormonal. Have you asked your Dr. I just did a google search and one of the suggestions was to eliminate dairy for 1 month. If no change after 1 month, you can add it back in. BM2 is such a fun w/o.

Yesterday I did BR RTC Day 2 and then mowed the lawn on my lunch break. My UB was pretty sore so I wanted to give it a bit of a break. Today I'm doing RTC Day 3 and STS Disc 7-back & triceps. It's been hit or miss with my steps. If I don't do some kind of cardio then I fall short if I don't walk in the evening. I think the 2 days of stepping may have triggered plantar fasciitis. My heel has been hurting so I'm stretching and using ice. I've been keeping a close eye on my calories this past week. I could still cut out more of the crap. I enjoy the small bit I allow myself that fit into my calories. Later today I'm heading to my sisters for my nephews 30th bday party. I have Monday off but it will be a low key weekend for us. Still trying to get DS3 to clean out his room since he's moved to the basement. UGH

Yesterday-I did enjoy some wine & chocolate chips
B-2 egg open face omelette w/ 1 can rinsed & drained chicken breast, cherub tomatoes
S-Banana w/ 1tbsp almond butter
L-Vega mocha protein shake w/ 1 C frozen strawberries, flat out flat bread w/ 1tbsp peanut butter
S- 1/2 C blueberries
D-protein pancake w/ pure maple syrup
After Dinner-glass of red wine and some chocolate chips

Hello!

How was your weekend? Mine was good. I worked Sat. and Sun. but am now off until next Tuesday! Love having a holiday and using only 2 vacation days to get 8 days off in a row! Took a nice bike ride Sunday. My leg did not get that ache so that was good! Mondays and Thursdays I'm deeming strength days so I did all my shoulder strengthening and went back to STS disc 3. Today I have PT at 10 and then have to make up 4 hours of training at work (did 4 last week). Saw the family at a picnic yesterday and fell asleep watching the Penguins.

Are you planning on continuing the BR 30 days? How is your shoulder? Mine feels pretty good and I may not schedule any more PT. We'll see what Chris says!

Beth

Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend. Wow, 8 days off sounds awesome! That's great news that you shoulder and leg/hip finally sound like they are healed.

My weekend was great. I worked out each day, but yesterday was pretty lazy. I only did the STS disc and binge watched HGTV. Today I did BR RTC day 5-abs focused and a lighter w/o in general, and will do STS disc 8-B&T at lunch. It is taking forever to get through meso 1 doing each week 2 times through. My shoulder is pretty good but too many pushups cause pain. I'm just careful and stop when I get twinge of pain. Yep, I will continue with the BR RTC 30 day challenge. I love this series. They have plenty of other w/o's to choose from too. When I'm short on time, then I select another w/o that fits my timeframe.

DS3 finally packed up about 99% of his crap and took it to the basement. He did throw out a ton of stuff. He has 2 bookcases to go through and get down stairs, and some posters still on his wall. After that stuff is done I will have him clean the walls and carpet. Next weekend I'm buying a queen size bed for that room (the quest room). :) Of course, when DS2 moves out, the guest bed will go in that room and I will use the other one for the office. DH and I kind of decided that if the DS2 doesn't move out soon, he's moving to the basement with his brother and we will utilize the house the way we want, with a quest room and an office. Our basement is completely open, walls/doors except for the laundry room. Hopefully the lack of privacy will be the push he needs to move out. I've also contacted a Kitchen remodel company as well as flooring specialists so we can get some idea on the costs of the updates we want to make. If we are staying, may as well get what I want, within reason of course. We will either take out a home equity loan, or refinance and take out some of the equity.

Your home improvement projects sound great! DH painted our upstairs bathroom yesterday-a version of beige. Today we're deep cleaning our bedroom-the curtains and all. We hired someone to fix our basement steps within the next few months. They are wobbly and there is no railing. The older we get the more I want them sturdy. We had a price on 3 windows in the kitchen-$3,000.00. Needless to say we are not getting them and need to go back to the drawing board to see about windows.

I didn't do anything Monday except a short walk and PT. I got discharged form PT so will just keep my stretching up and try not to injure myself again! Hoping for a bike ride today.

Got 9 hours of sleep last night! So glad not to have to get up at 5.

Beth
