Preggo Checkin, Babies getting ready!! Sept 13

Morning!
HOpe everyone slept well last night. I actually stayed in bed until 6..that is a record lately.
I just pre-ordered shock cardio. I will be well stocked with new dvds to keep me busy, that is for sure. I cannot spend anymore money!!!!

Rainy dreary day here. We are going to Little Rock to see Paul's neice ( she is there doing her physical therapy internship) and do a little shopping.

Im wondering if my dr will allow me to travel next weekend. I have read that in the last month travel of any kind is not recommended. My shower is next weekend in Mississippi. I guess I"ll find out on Tuesday at my appt.

Well, Im off to make some breakfast for the fam and get busy. bbl

Good morning Susan, thanks for getting us started....sounds like you're back to your perky self? Travel? Do you have to fly to Mississippi....how far is it? If it's just a couple hours, I wouldn't worry about it. When I think of my ob/gyn being 2 hours away, and my specialist beging being 5 hours away,... but then again I'm not 36 weeks pregnant...... Let us know what your doctor says.

My ob/gyn appt is Wednesday and I have a good friend who's pushing me to ask the doctor for a medical release when I'm there. About 25% of the time I can do my job with little to no pain, 25% I'm in lots of pain. Urgh. Ultimately, it's the girls health I am most concerned about. I don't feel like I get the support I need at work, especially when I ask one of my technicians to bend over to get the Rxs on the bottom 2 rows (b/c I simply cannot fold in half anymore,....when I push to do it myself,...I get dizzy when I stand up).

Well, I"m off to get the boys ready for God's House. We're visiting one in the next town over with an awesome worship team. :)

Waves to all!!!

Hello there ladies!! I am considering joining in on the forum here. I am a bit timid b/c you all already have a close nit group that is kinda large...
My name is Melanie (used to go by Mel2 on the TTC posts) anyway. I am pregnant again!! I am about 4-6 weeks along. Technically 6 if you go by the LMP. I was concerned about joining in also b/c I miscarried my first pregnancy in Feb. at about 6 weeks. So, I am nervous, but greatly excited at the same time. I figured the support would be nice also, so here I am. If this is ok w/y'all.

I've been skimming the posts here and there and hopefully be able to keep up.

Hi Melanie!!!! Congrats and welcome to the boards. Many of us have spent our share of time on the TTC posts (and sadly many of us have also experienced the pain of loss).........feel free to share your concerns with us. I"m so excited for you!!!!!

Welcome Mel2! I think I remember you from our TTC boards! Congratulations also! Please don't feel shy with us! We may be a close group but we always have room for more!

Melanie- I'm sorry about your pains! Have you tried Tylenol? I think today answers your question about asking for medical release from work. Remember, this is your time to take it easy for the sake of your girls. Especially if you don't feel the support at work. I know all about that.... :)

Susan- Wow, I wish my DH let me order all the workout DVD's I wanted! ;) I can't imagine what your stash looks like! I'm glad your mood feels better. I had a rough day yesterday, mood wise. Must've been the rain we had here.

I had some strange menstrual type backache yesterday and Friday, which really scared me. It felt better if I laid down and rested and drank more water (which I already drink a ton). I have experienced Brx Hicks which has never hurt, just tight and uncomfortable. I never really had front cramps during my periods only my back would hurt, which is what this felt like. Anyone know what this is? I have my dr's appt tomorrow morning and I will ask him but just wondered if anyone else experienced anything similar???

Jen!!!!! Menstral type back pain? Too soon yet to go into labor,....you better take it easy.

Hmmmmm. Have ya'll forgot? I'm "the pill pusher". LOL I've been maxing out on Tylenol almost everyday (8-max strenth/day). :( If my doctor won't let me out on medical leave, I'm going to have to ask for some light narcotics. NSAIDs (like ibuprofen, naprox) are out of the question with my low platelets. Narcotics are so constipating for me....and you know my history there......I'm afraid I won't make it thru many more work days without heavier pain meds....

Welcome, Melanie!! Sending sticky vibes your way :)

Melanie, it can't hurt to ask your doctor about an earlier leave. With the long commute and the lack of support at work, it's not unreasonable to think about going out earlier than planned. Hope all your pangs and pains subsided today.

Susan, DH and I watched Coraline with my stepson who is 11. It *was* freaky for a movie aimed at kids. How long would the drive to your shower be?

Jen, I'm glad the extra water and rest helped with the cramping. That didn't happen to me at all, so I have nothing to relate. Sometimes those regularly scheduled doc appts are at just the right time, eh?

I actually started having some menstrual-like cramping in the front last night. Nothing strong, nothing consistent. Half hoping this means the boy is getting ready for delivery! Though I'm not looking forward to delivery, I'm excited to meet him -- and to not be pregnant anymore!!

I'm a planner by nature; unexpected pregnancy and delivery do not mix well with planning, do they? I guess if I'd had a C-section last time, I could have planned delivery this time around. LOL

Brownie Recipes!

I have made both the Outrageous Oreo Crunch Brownies and the Fudge Brownies Supreme. Both are fantastic! The third recipe is the original Ina Garten recipe, which I have not tried.

Oh, and NONE of these are diet-friendly. Enjoy :D

---------------------------------------

Outrageous Oreo Crunch Brownies (Adapted from Ina Garten)
Makes 20 (I got waaaay more than 20 -- more like 40)

4 sticks butter
1 pound semisweet chocolate chips
6 ounces unsweetened chocolate -- chopped
6 eggs
3 tablespoons instant coffee granules
2 tablespoons vanilla
2 1/4 cups sugar
1 cup plus 1/4 cup flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
4 cups chopped Oreo cookies (50 cookies)

Arrange a rack in the middle of the oven and preheat to 350. Butter and flour an 11 1/2" x 17 1/4" x 1" baking pan. (Use foil to make it easier to get the brownies out of the pan.)

In a heatproof medium bowl set over a saucepan of simmering water, heat butter, chocolate chips and unsweetened chocolate until melted and smooth. Allow to cool slightly.

In a large bowl, whisk eggs, coffee, vanilla and sugar. Blend chocolate mixture into egg mixture; cool to room temperature.

In a medium bowl, sift together one cup flour, baking powder and salt. Add flour mixture to chocolate mixture. In a small bowl, stir Oreos and remaining 1/4 cup flour. Add Oreo mixture to chocolate mixture. Pour batter into baking pan, whack on counter to get out air, and smooth top with a rubber spatula.

Bake 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted 3 inches from center comes out clean; do not overbake. Allow to cool. Refrigerate, tightly wrapped, until cold (if you have time, let them refrigerate overnight); cut into squares.

Fudge Brownies Supreme
from The All-American Cookie Book by Nancy Baggett

1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons (1 stick plus 2 tablespoons) unsalted butter
5 ounces bittersweet (not unsweetened) or semisweet chocolate, broken up or coarsely chopped
2/3 cup all-purpose white flour
1 1/2 tablespoon unsweetened American-style cocoa powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup sugar
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
3 large eggs
2 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease an 8-inch square baking pan or coat with nonstick spray. Line the pan with aluminum foil, letting the foil overhang two opposing sides of the pan by about 2 inches. Grease the foil or coat with nonstick spray.

In a large microwave-safe bowl, microwave the butter and chocolate on 100 percent power for 1 minute. Stir well. Continue microwaving on 50 percent power, stirring at 30-second intervals. Stop microwaving before the chocolate completely melts and let the residual heat finish the job. (Alternately, in a large, heavy saucepan, melt the chocolate and butter over lowest heat, stirring frequently; be very careful not to burn. Immediately remove from the heat.)

Let cool to warm. In a small bowl, thoroughly stir together the flour, cocoa powder and salt; set aside. Stir the sugar and brown sugar into the chocolate-butter mixture until well combined. Add the eggs and vanilla and stir until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is well blended and smooth. Stir in the flour mixture just until evenly incorporated.

Turn out the batter into the baking pan, spreading to the edges. Bake in the middle of the oven for 28-33 minutes, or until the center is almost firm when tapped and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean except for the bottom 1/4 inch, which should still look moist.

Transfer the pan to a wire rack and let stand until the brownie is completely cooled. Refrigerate until well chilled.

Using the overhanging foil as handles, transfer the brownie to a cutting board. Carefully peel off and discard the foil. If desired, cut away and discard any overbaked edges. Using a large sharp knife, cut the brownie into 12 bars; wipe the knife clean between cuts.
Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 1 month. If freezing, leave the brownie slab whole, then cut into bars when partially thawed.

Outrageous Brownies
Makes 20 Large Brownies

Inspiration for this recipe came frm the Chocolate Glob in the SOHO Charcuterie Cookbook published by William Morrow in 1983. In its heyday, the SoHo Charcuterie was the cutting edge of New York restaurants. The giant confection was a blob of chocolate dough filled with chocolate chips and nuts. I thought I could make a brownie with almost the same formula. They've been flying out the door for fiteen years!

1 Pound unsalted butter
1 Pound plus 12 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
6 ounces unsweetened chocolate
6 extra-large eggs
3 tablespoons instant coffee granules
2 tablespoons pure vanilla extract
2 1/4 cups sugar
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
3 cups chopped walnuts

Preheat the oven to 350. Butter and flour a 12 x 18 x 1-inch baking sheet. Melt together the butter, 1 pound of chocolate chips, and the unsweetened chocolate in a medium bowl over simmering water. Allow to cool slightly. In a large bowl, stir (do not beat) together the eggs, coffee granules, vanilla, and sugar. Stir the warm chocolate mixture into the egg mixture and allow to cool to room temperature.

In a medium bowl, sift together 1 cup of flour, the baking powder, and salt. Add to the cooled chocolate mixture. Toss the walnuts and 12 ounces of chocolate chips in a medium bowl with 1/4 cup of flour, then add them to the chocolate batter. Pour into the baking sheet.

Bake for 20 minutes, then rap the baking sheet against the oven shelf to force the air to escape from between the pan and the brownie dough. Bake for about 15 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean. Do not overbake! Allow to cool thoroughly, refrigerate, and cut into 20 large squares.

Notes from Contessa: Flouring the chips and walnuts keeps them from sinking to the bottom. It is very important to allow the butter to cool well before adding the chocolate chips, or the chips will melt and ruin the brownies. This recipe can be baked up to a week in advance, wrapped in plastic and refrigerated.

Thanks for the recipes, Alllison!! I"m so happy to see there's no peanut butter in them (I despise peanut butter). Hmmmmm. More menstual cramps?!?!? Hmmmmmm. :p

Hey!!
Ya'll have been chatty...hope I can remember all that I read.

Welcome Mel2! Of course you are welcome here! Congrats!!!

Melanie-I hope you are feeling better!! Tylenol doesnt do a thing for my aches. I hope you can get your leave from work soon!! You made my day when you said I could take Advil while nursing...ahhhhh!

Jen-did I say dh knew of my orders???? I have a stash from my Nana so I treat myself every so often. :D
I have had the mentrual backache pains off and on throghout my pregnancy. My dr said it was normal. I was ILL yesterday too..must of been the moon or something!

Allison-thanks for the recipes..YUM! The drive for my shower is 3.5 hours. Surely I will be able to go..I will ask on Tuesday just to be sure.
When do you go back to the dr?

Ok sorry to cut it short but we have been gone all day and I am beat. I"ll seee you ladies tomorrow!

Susan, 3.5 hours will be a long drive.....take many stops to walk around if you feel the need (ie cramping). ARe you staying the night? That's be even better.........otherwise the 3.5 hr drive home may prove to be the toughest!! Keep us posted. :)

Morning!
Melanie-yes we will be staying the night. Luckily dh does all the driving so I can get in any comfy position I need to and we'll for sure be stopping for pee breaks!
How did everyone sleep? I took 2 tylenol before bed. It did help my shoulders from aching, but did NOTHING for the butt pain.
No workouts over the weekend, but I am feeling I need to do something today.

Allison-Dawn-anything???

Morning waves to everyone!

Good AM, Susan. I took 2 tylenol before I went to bed & 2 tylenol when I woke up this AM. LOL I can't help but feel like an "old" person taking all these tylenols. LOL I'm glad your staying the night in Mississippi....that should work out fine for you.

I have some cramping this AM,......I'm hoping it's a BM brewing it's way out!!

Good afternoon everyone! Dr's appt was great! Asked him about the menstrual pain and he said it is pre-term labor and I did the right thing by resting. He did not seem concerned at all and said maybe I did too much. He said if it happens again and I have 6 or more contractions in an hour to call him. At least I have a guideline now...so that makes me feel better. He also gave me the regular flu shot which he recommended. Oh and up 5 lbs which puts me at a total of 30 lbs so far. Not good, not bad....

Melanie- You look great! Your belly actually looks about as big as mine.

Allison- OMG! Thank you for posting those recipes. I am going to get in trouble because I want to make all three of them and DH will kill me for being on my feet that long! But definitely will be trying the Oreo one! My fav! I'm a planner too and I've already started on working trying to let go of control knowing that he will come when he is good and ready!

Susan- Oh I wish I had your Nana! :)

And I forgot to add.... I asked my dr about restrictions at work (because my boss wanted to know) and told him of the discussion of me being on call and he said "You have no business being on call and going out in the middle of the night. Of course I will write you a note." :) Isn't he lovely??? So I gave it to my boss and she didn't say anything...oh well... you asked for it right? Anyhoo, didn't want to forget to share.

Jen~ yeah to the medical note! Your dr seems very compassionate. Mine just stared at me blankly when I told him that I am sometimes so sore I cannot get out of the car when I get home. Urgh. If he won't write me a medical release note.....I will have him write me a note releasing me from bending over. 30# is very reasonable weight gain for as far along as you are. I gained 35 with my boys....and always lost a lb or two the last month. :D

What are all the mommies doing today?

Hi Ladies
I have been reading a very long, boring chapter in Art. Finally done with that one! I did Firm Vol 1 this moring...been years! No impact and 5lb weights was all I could handle! I was also ready for my nap at 10:30. After about 20 min I was ready to read again.

Melanie-you look great!!! Great picture!

Jen-Im glad you mentioned the flu shot. I need to ask about that tomorrow. Yayy about the note from dr!! I guess you told her uh!:D Oh, I'll be making the oreo recipe too.....oh mannnn!!!!

Wonder where Dawn and Allison are???

I am getting anty from sitting reading so long. I think I'll go vacuum or something.
