Anyone dealing with carpal tunnel post pregnancy?

I am 4.5 months postpartum at this point and am exclusively breastfeeding. Doc says its a common complaint and will pass. This is really affecting my ability to lose the pregnancy weight because my hands hurt a lot! And unfortunately, the things that hurt the most are the things I normally enjoy the most (and therefore am most likely to make time for lol) - yoga and resistance training. Downward dog and other positions with weight on my hands and wrists are painful and of course these are the transitions between most all poses in a good flow. I have used some VERY light weights where I would usually use 3x more and have had only minor discomfort so I could try upping the weight at this point. I guess I'm wondering if I should just move through the pain or can I hurt myself doing that? Anyone else dealing with persistent carpal tunnel?

I did, but it improved a lot after 8 weeks with the use of a brace 24/7 for a couple of weeks. I am also exclusively bfing. If you're 4.5 mos pp, I would ask your dr. for a referral to a specialist maybe and ask him what kind of limitations you would/should have with exercising? That seems a bit long to still have severe pain. My ob told me 8 weeks is the average that it should be really bad and it gets gradually better after that. I'm 3 mos pp and can pretty much do most things, however, downward dog and pushups still put pressure on my wrists which doesn't make them hurt bad, but I can tell it's not back to "normal" yet. I hope that they get better soon!

i only have a second......
but the problem will keep reoccuring if you dont get to th root of the problem. your neck & upper back are misaligned causing the nreves to pinch, hence the carpal tunnel.

get thee to a chiropractor!:D

eta: im not a chiro, but i used to work for one and totally love it now!

thanks, ladies.

i do think i need to be more pushy with the doc for a referral to a specialist. and i got a recommendation for a massage therapist with some specific training that should help - a family member who is also a bodyworker said to see someone who has studied ben benjamin, myofascial and neuromuscular techniques to work on those nerves that are pinched.

kate - i know zilch about chiropractics (sp?) and would definitely need to learn some more before i'd be comfortable laying down cash, or my body lol. how do i evaluate chiropractors?
