Whatcha doin for New Year's Eve?

I don't usually like to do much for New Year's Eve. Since the weather is supposed to be awful tomorrow night (rain, wind and slush), we're just going to an early dinner in our neighborhood and then home to watch When Harry Met Sally (my New Year's Eve movie).

I was surprised when I called the restaurant that for a 7:15 reservation they are charging the New Year's Eve price. It is so expensive to eat out on NYEve! The prix fixe is $70 per person. Of course that will include the obligatory champagne, even though I don't like champagne. I wonder if it includes wine? Probably not. Sheeeesh. :( Maybe I can substitute wine for the champagne?

What is everyone else doing?

I haven't decided yet. There is a dance at our local fire hall. We'll most likely go there and support the fire department. The big day is Jan 1, Levee Day, lots of socializing and dancing,etc New Year's Day. We are going to go to our legion, it's a nice way to catch up with people you don't see very often. :)
 
I doubt if we'll go out. We have a couple bottles of champagne and family visiting, so we'll probably just watch the "ball drop", then go to bed.
Nancy, is this the dinner to celebrate your raise?
Sherry, is Levee Day a Canadian holiday, or a local celebration? I never heard of it.
 
Hi Robin, yes it's a Canadian celebration of New Years Day. DH says it give people an excuse to party in the middle of the afternoon. All the clubs, legions, firehalls, any place at all really, have a giant party. They serve Moose Milk (egg nog and rum). It runs from about 10 am to 6 pm New Years Day.
 
Good question, Robin. My DH says this is the dinner that will use most of my raise. LOL. ;-) Yes, I think we will combine celebrating New Year's with celebrating the raise. Makes sense.

Be glad you won't be in Times Square watching that ball drop! It's going to be a cold, slushy mess out there.
 
Well Nancy, enjoy your dinner and let us know what wonderful meal you have. I think we are supposed to have the same yukky weather here all weekend.

Sherry, hmmm, Moose Milk. Sounds like something my DH would like. He keeps making dumb jokes about how eggnog was invented. It's because no one liked the meatnog. He also has a favorite, sweet wine he says is for Saturday mornings when you don't have anything planned for the day. He'd love an excuse to party during the day.
 
I'm headed down to atlantic city with DH to join my mom and her bf at the same party we went to last year in one of the casinos. I'm leaving tomorrow and coming back sunday afternoon or evening. I'm VERY excited! :)
 
Not a darn thing. DH hates being on the road during New Year and I don't like crowds, so we'll probably just stay home and watch movies.

We're going to order a pizza or Chinese food and watch "Serenity." I hate the crowds on NYE, and more than that, hate paying twice the price at restaurants.

DH the kids and I usually go to my stepdads house and all my brothers and their family have a cookout and just hangout. The men drink where the women pretty much have to drive. I don't drink so it is no big deal to me.

Some of the deleted scenes are *really* good! (We watched those first and are now making our way through the movie with the director's commentary on.) :) Enjoy!
 
Nancy, you foodie, sounds like a wonderful New Year's Eve!! And, personally, I don't think $70 is bad AT ALL. LOL, we spent about $300 on our anniversary dinner in San Francisco- I guess my DH has spoiled me/taught me how to enjoy really expensive food.

I have only spent midnight with my DH one New Year's Eve in the 7 we've been together. He's a banquet manager at a hotel, so whenever someone has a party, he's pouring champagne for them and I'm home asleep on the couch. :) This year, though, he promises he'll be home at 10pm "or so". We'll see- he's usually 2 hours later than when he says. We'll probably eat some of the food we got for Christmas, and maybe open the bottle of Coppola Sophia we got a few months ago when we wine tasted at the Coppola winery. Maybe.

The cool thing is, this year his hotel doesn't have any NYE parties booked because they've got the football teams instead. Whoever is playing the Raiders is staying at his hotel, then the next day, whoever is playing the 49ers is staying there. He'll feed them I think at 4 and again at 9, then come back in the morning to feed them breakfast.
 
Amy - I was also at the Coppola winery (about 2 years ago) and also tasted the Sophia. It was delicious! I want to come over and have some of that!

That's great that you have your DH this year!
