Holy moly, I had to call a lawyer.

I am now officially a whistle blower. Things at work have gotten so bad my boss actually TOLD me I should consult w/an attny. I have an appt next Thursday, my RE attny referred me to him & told me the man was a tiger. Which is what I need right now, b/c I am definitely working in a jungle!

Funny how you can be a good, responsible, hard working employee who always tries to do the right thing & your job ends up on the line, while a bunch of slackers sit back, do the bare minimum & will be working here until they retire or die. :(

Oh, I'm sorry for you! I've worked at places where the slackers seem to skate by...good luck with your fight and good for you for standing up for what you believe in.

Stephanie

Shoot, Laura, that blows. I'm sorry things have gotten so crummy at work. There's nothing worse than having problems and dissent at the workplace (where you spend more time than any other place!)

If it makes you feel better, my car just broke down for the second time in two months and it's about to get towed from where I work. I may need to start selling my collection of Cathe workouts in order to pay for my stupid car. :(

(I know, that's totally sac-relig.) Actually, knowing me, I'll walk to work before I sell any of my precious Cathe's.....

Allison

I am very sorry to hear that, Laura....especially that your boss told you to! I hope that everything turns out okay (hugs!!!)

I know, that's what's so scary! If HE thinks I need legal advice I must be in trouble!

Allison, so sorry about your car! Don't sell your Cathe DVDs!!!!!!!! Can't you get a credit card temporarily to pay for it? Like one of those 0% interest for one year things?

LauraMax ..

I feel your pain .. I work w/a girl that works to get out of work .. and constantly abuses sick leave, family leave, lunches and breaks and seems to skate by even patted on the head ..

while I bust my @$$ and the reward is more work!!

Bless your heart .. scary your boss advised you to get a attny ... at least it sounds like you have a good one! Hope things turn out for the good for you!!!

Sorry to hear that I hope things get better. Is this regarding that girl you were having trouble with>
LD

Unfortunately she's actually become a minor issue at this point. I've been sucked into a conflict betw. 2 of our councilmembers & I had to share some pretty nasty, disturbing emails sent to me by one of them about the other. I think when the stuff hits the fan these people will be looking for any & every reason to get rid of me. :(

Laura,

I'm so sorry to hear about your troubles. I hope it all works out for you. I'm thinking of you and wishing you the best.

Oh, that's awful! It sounds like your boss is behind you though. Hang in there and keep us posted.

Thanks guys. Yes, my boss is behind me, so him finding another job is now in my top 5 scariest things that could happen! I'm sure he's looking--this place is like working in Dante's Inferno.

Everything happens for a reason, maybe the Universe has a much better job waiting for you, and needed to "boot you out" so you could find it?

I mean that seriously, it has always happened that way in my life, a seemingly horrid situation turned into one that saved my life, but to get me to move, there was always a swift kick in the bottom!:7

Hang in there sister, you will be just fine. So will the rest who are having problems-really!!:)

Edit: Plus, you have the "bag" now, life is good. :)

Well I don't have the "bag" yet, hopefully tomorrow, but I am getting some satisfaction in seeing black is now sold out, at least at Nordstrom. I wonder if I got the last one? Could my luck be changing? :p

Laura, I'm desperately seeking a paralegal to replace my awesome one who is leaving. :( Any interest in a law job?

LauraMax, you don't happen to work in my office do you?? ;-)

I guess you're not the only one in the Inferno. I'm blowing a whistle today too, going to the #2 man in the whole division. I've told my supervisors til I'm blue in the face, but they are beleving the male coworker in this, not me. Grrr. But, there is a mountain of evidence stacking up, all on my side.

Best of luck to you! Frankly the people that are lazy and don't work don't bother me near as much as the ones that have huge egos, and can get the whole company in deep doo-doo because of their actions. Scary!

I don't know Govmtgirl, you're scaring me! I'm hoping you're not sitting 50 feet away from me right now! :+

Well our town attny was fired last night. I think I'm next on the list, although if it happens I've been informed they'll be paying my living expenses for the next 5 years at least. ;-)

Nancy, you're in NYC, right? If you're serious PM me--I don't know what paralegals make & I don't know if the commute would be worth it, but ya never know! :)

wow, Laura, sorry for all the stress. I know your job has been not great for awhile, so maybe it's time to find something new. I'm not saying cut and run, and a good lawyer is worth whatever you pay her/him, but after it the dust settles, getting out of that situation might be the best thing you do for yourself. Good luck.
Valerie :)

Thanks Valerie. I've been trying for quite some time. I've talked to headhunters (lots of skills, no qualifications for anything but govmt). I've sent resumes, I've had "informational interviews." I'm even looking into going back to school & changing careers entirely. Once you get to a certainl level working in local politics is really insecure & too subject to who wins elections, not to mention the hours suck. x(

Laura, you would probably make an excellent paralegal. The paralegals at big firms make good money, so you may want to consider it. Unfortunately, our firm isn't willing to pay much. I doubt we could offer you enough. :(

All I need is someone who can read and write and I can teach them the rest. I never would have guessed how many people out there can't do either! :(

>I don't know Govmtgirl, you're scaring me! I'm hoping you're
>not sitting 50 feet away from me right now! :+

If I were, I'd be one of the dweebs in the office that comes in on time, works like a fiend all day, and would be marching in to the lawyer's right beside you pounding my fist on the table. You sound like the rare individual that actually has a work ethic too!

And it looks like the loose cannon in my office is going to get fired, possibly as early as next week. Which is wonderful news, he doesn't deserve to sweep the floors there. But I'm on vacation next week, and would dearly love to be there when the guards come in to escort him off the premises. :p He's gonna go ballistic.

I wish I could be like Samantha and Endora from "Bewitched"...just floating up near the ceiling in a gown, drinking a martini and watching the whole thing unfold! :7

Best of luck to you Lauramax!!
