Default Advice on Taxes!

Im just the posting queen today! Anyone realize that I am bored?:D
I wanted to run something by you guys and I will try to make this as short as possible.Bare with me;(
I know this is something that we all hate with a passion unless we are getting money back.I am usually pretty lucky in this area but we will see what this year holds.
Any accountants or people who work for tax companies may be able to give some advice.
In 2002 I tried to claim left over tuition.$3500 to be exact. They said I had to much to clam(H&R Block) and we left it for 2003 tax season.Has the lady was closing my folder,I thought, should I be taking my papers home? And I didn't.
In 2003 I called the tax center and asked if my papers were left there from last year(the stuff I need to claim this year). She said, yes everything is here.Over I go,the lady fills everything out.Gives me a check for $ 1400.I of course, decide to do some shopping, pay some over do bills(visas) that weekend.I get a call on Monday saying that there was a problem with Revenue Canada. They have no proof of me going to school.
I have searched the whole world over looking for proof that I paid $3500 in school fees. I know I left the paper there and they do not have it.The school I went to closed down. The banks have no record of paying tuition for me.Is it possible? I have a student loan that I am paying for.
I am now left with a $1000 bill that needs to be paid back to H&R Block.
1.Should I go in there and demand that THEY lost my proof(which they did).
2.Should I get a lawyer?(who am I butting heads with a big company?)
3.Should I tell them that I am definitly not paying it back?
4.And of course, the lady who FILLED out my taxes, also didn't have the paper directly in front of her.It must have been wrote down in my file somewhere.By law you are not suppose to fill anything without the papers being in front of you!
5.Should I just give up and pay the bill?
Part of me wants to march in there and tell them where to shove it.But they have so much more power then me.They may send it to a collection agency or something.I know that they are totally responsible but knowing it and proving it are two different things.
And another part of me wants to pay it and get it over with.Even though the money is rightfully mine.
Anyway, does anyone have any advice? I am toally stuck on this one.
Thanks for listening guys.
Lori:)
