On the DVD with Interval Max, my picture freezes for a few seconds between the end of the 6th and beginning of the 7th interval. Also, the volume on Interval Max is very low compared to Rhythmic Step and MIC. Is the DVD defective?

We put the layer change during the "cool down phase" of the interval to minimize the freeze problem affecting your workout. Some newer DVD players that are coming out use read ahead memory and eliminate the problem. The low sound of IntervalMax is also not a defect. The video was just recorded at a lower level than the other two workouts on the disc.
