Default Gym Style or Slow & Heavy?

Hi Everyone,

I am in the process of trying to figure out what Cathe workout I want to buy. This will be the first time I will try any of Cathe's DVD's and thought I had decided on GS but then I came across S&H. I have always done full body workouts but would like to do the split format this time. I do want to do heavy weights w/ lower reps instead of endurance. I'm hoping some of you can suggest which one would be best to start with? Also, do I need to find a rotation or do the workouts give guidance on how to do them?

Thanks!

You can't go wrong with either GS or S&H. I have used both series, and I tend to use the GS more often only bc it seems that the time goes faster in these workouts. Plus I love the stability ball and floor work in GS legs. My preference is working legs alone one day, then back/bi's, then chest/tris...so the GS was formatted to that sequencing.

The S&H tricep/bicep is insane - your arm muscles will be screaming for days! It's a great work out.

Another suggestion is to check out the workouts on FitTV first...try them and see which one you prefer before purchasing it.

Agreed you will be fine with either one. I only have Gym Style in my collection but have done S&H on FitTv, I agree with PJ gym stle is faster. Some days S&H seems really slow. There is a post down below in which someone else asked about gym styles, take a look at some of the comments.

Thanks for the replies y'all! We have Dish Network which unfortunately doesn't include Fit TV :-( Otherwise it would be GREAT to be able to sample Cathe's workouts. It sounds like GS is the way to go so that's the one I've settled on.

I'm sure I'll be on the boards looking for more advice once I get started.

You all take care :-)

I have both and prefer the Gym Style. It really fries you -- 72 full body push ups in drop sets is the opening exercise for Chest and Back.

That isn't to say Slow and Heavy isn't a good series because it is. I prefer the music used in Slow and Heavy versus Gym Style.

Cathe is upbeat and encouraging in both Gym Styles and Slow and Heavy.

But I certainly get better results when I work the Gym Style upper body workouts into my rotations. My arms got incredibly cut when I pushed myself in the Gym Styles.

One other thing - Cathe manages to fry you with a resistance band in Gym Styles.

As I recall, Slow and Heavy does not incorporate the use of the resistance band. I have not done Slow and Heavy in a while so I could be wrong.

I think Gym Styles are great ways to work up to STS.

Of course, now we are going to have an new STS workout in her new series!

I have Slow & Heavy and like it very much, so for me it's a Gymstyles Christmas!

I own both series. I did a four week slow and heavy rotation at the end of the summer using both of them and I developed muscles and strength gains. I enjoy both of them. I live GS Legs better and I like Slow and Heavy Tri and Bi. My arms are fried after that workout. I think GS Chest is better than SH even though I don't look forward to those push ups.

Basically, you can't go wrong with either.

I remember that rotation Heartymax, that's when I first started thinking about the Gym Styles, that's a good one.

Oct 07' Back to Heavy
