sore neck

Hi,

I seem to get a very sore neck, mostly when using my bar and doing alot of squats. Maybe i'm resting the bar on the wrong part of my neck or something. Just wondering if anyone else has this problem. Sometimes it pinches when i'm workin out and I have to stop. Anyone relate?

Make sure you're holding the bar against your trapezius muscle (across the top of the back) and not actually on your neck.
 
Be really careful

Be really careful about this. I have heard that you can actually injure your cervical spine by resting heavy weights on the neck. Be sure and rest it on your back.

Do you have a barbell pad? If not,this will alleviate your pain and help position the bar in its proper place. You can get one at any sporting goods store! I hope this helps you. Good luck! Your friend in fitness---Francine
 
I would also make sure you don't let your head or neck jet outward as this can cause stress on the neck area.
