Cardio Time

I was told by a personal trainer that you only needed to have your heart rate elevated for 20 minutes to be effective. She said that any longer was a waste of time. Too, she only suggests 3 days a week for cardio. Is that true according to you? She looks great but that just does not seem correct. Whats your opinion? Thanks Sharon

Hi Sharon! While it is true that the minimum requirements for cardiovascular conditioning is three times a week at 20 minutes, many people like to do more for body fat loss. Everyones genetics are different. Some people can keep their body fat levels low with three 20 minute sessions per week while others may reqire more. The same holds true for the amount of lifting and/or the combination of lifting and cardio within a given week. The key is to find the best combination that works for you. I always recommend starting with less and gradully adding on as you see needed. Doing the most time effecient and most effective workout for YOUR body will keep you energized and less prone to the risk of injuries in the long run. Good luck, keep focused, and remember to eat a balanced and healthy diet too :)
