barbell rows

when I do barbell rows, using an appropriately challenging weight, it causes me lower back pain which makes it impossible for me to complete the exercise. I have to lighten the weight to a ridiculous point, to be able to tolerate working in that bent over position. when doing STS, can I just do another set of one arm rows, instead of barbell rows? the back support, in the position for one arm rows, makes that exercise entirely do-able, at ever increasing weight. Thanks!!

I can't do barbell rows as well. In my opinion they are no no for people with lower back pain. No matter how tight I keep my abs these always cause trouble to my back. I completely eliminated them along with double arm triceps kikbacks and deadlifts. In STS I do another set of 1 arm row while they do barbell row and always do single arm triceps kikbacks. If others have more ideas, would like to hear them.
