Default Beef Brisket with Smoky Barbeque Sauce (crockpot)

I've had this recipe for some time now (about 10 years) and haven't made it in ages. My older DS actually ASKED for a brisket the other day so I made this last night for my kids and my friends/neighbors! It was gobbled right up and is soooooooooo yummy! The meat was so tender you don't even need a knife, it just falls right apart. Leftovers can easily be used for sandwiches, wraps, on salads, etc.

Beef Brisket with Smoky Barbecue Sauce
2-3# fresh beef brisket (not corned beef brisket)
1 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp celery seed
1/8 tsp pepper
1/2 C ketchup (or is it catsup?)
1/2 C chili sauce
1/4 C packed brown sugar
2 Tbsp vinegar
2 Tbsp worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 tsp liquid smoke (found near the BBQ sauce in the store, yum)
1/2 tsp dry mustard
  • Trim fat from brisket. If needed, cut brisket to fit into crock pot.
  • combine chili powder, garlic powder, celery seed, and pepper. Rub mixture evenly over meat and place in a 3-5 quart crock pot.
  • For the sauce, combine ketchup, chili sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke, and dry mustard. Pour over brisket.
  • Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 4-5 hours.
  • Remove meat from crock pot and cut into thin slices across the grain (I can never figure out where the grain IS, lol). Skim fat off juices in cooker, and serve with/over the meat.

ENJOY!

Gayle - this looks delicious - I have to ask though, what is chili sauce?

ElleJay, you can find chili sauce in the ketchup/mustard/condiment aisle. It's like a thick spicy ketchup.

DS had this leftover for lunch today and we were eating it COLD! LOL And then tonight for dinner, my kids had BBQ Bacon Burgers (homemade) with the leftover BBQ sauce from the brisket! SO DELISH!
