Hi,

The Scottish festival was great, dogs had all kinds of fun running around the open field ignoring all the normal commands that they are used to doing.....but it still was great. We took a lot of good pictures, and even one video of Keegan where he kind of listened, but not all the time.

We went on a 10 mile bike ride early this morning, it was a little cool, but warmed up a bit on our way back. It took us an hour and 24 minutes. I would have gone a lot faster, but DH has to get some time to build his leg muscles, he said they start to cramp up for some reason.

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Good morning,

I struggled with C25K this morning, had to walk a bit of the last jogging part. I will not move forward until I complete a week of all 3 workouts. It may take me a while..

Work, then class tonight, nothing much else going on here....

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Valerie--

Yesterday I did the 60 min. premix on STS total body (this one leaves out the bonus burn sections). This morning I did the 47 min. premix on Cardio Supersets, which includes step.

Cute photos of Keegan, Deb. He looks like he really enjoys doggie "dressage."

The Compagnie Kafig performance on Saturday was spectacular. Standing ovation went on and on, and each of the dancers did his own little solo in response. One more performance next Saturday--the Joffrey Ballet--and then Jacob's Pillow's season is over for another year.

MMMMM--had lobster for dinner last night with corn on the cob and our tomatoes. Love summer food.

Did a mt bike today supposedly a premliminary to a hike. the forest service has closed the road to motorized traffic and is letting it revert back to nature. we planned to ride the road and then do the hike and then ride back for a total of about 16 miles. but it was warm and muggy and the mosquitos were awful. the road was, as most roads to trailheads are, uphill for 5 miles. not that steep but almost no breaks. it was rocky and getting overgrown with shubbery. we got there but didn't feel like we could finish the hike comfortably, several miles and several thousand feet gain. so we explored the other direction on the trail since there is supposed to be access from another place. now at least we know we can ride this road to the trailhead. road was just closed last year.

we walked another mile or so back toward trailhead to explore #2 and then went back to where we'd stashed the bikes and ate lunch. by now the weather conditions were better and a breeze had come up and it was much less humid but we decided to let it slide with what we'd done already. took us 2.5 hours to ride up, and we rode back down in about an hour. I fell one time and got some nasty bruises. I can't carry a backpack when riding a bike so need to lash the pack to a rear bike carrier. a screw holding the carrier fell out, I got tippy and went down before I knew what was happening. I am pleased though, that I was able to ride the whole uphill route without pooping out. pretty strongly, actually. if it hadn't been so sweaty warm and buggy we might have felt a lot better about continuing.

Deb, that looks like fun with the doggies!.. please tell me you don't need a trailer like in the background pic #1 to transport those little guys!

It takes time to get legs used to riding. especially if he doesn't usually to physical stuff. different muscles than walking. I'm really pleased biking has worked the same area that cathe focuses on. did not get sore at all from LBB.

Good morning,

No workout today, late class last night. We have a roofer coming tomorrow to give us an estimate on a roof for the house, garage, and for gutters. This should be interesting. Let's see if he even shows up. You know how when you are speaking with one of these guys, and you get the feeling that they are reluctantly saying that they will come by and measure etc then call you? Somehow I felt he did not want the job, not really anxious and I was asking him all kinds of questions, and telling him things I thought he would have asked me. I guess we will see .

Lynda, the Joffrey ballet is pretty well known correct? ( as you can see I am not up on this but I have heard of them. ). Keegan does like his "doggie dressage"... cute description.

Valerie, that road that you hiked sounds tough. Glad you didn't get hurt on the fall. The trailer in the background is a horse trailer, there were horse exhibititors there as well. I didn't see what they were actually doing.

Hi to Josie, & Joan,

take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Valerie--

This morning I did the upper body premix on High Reps (39 min.).

Yes, Deb, the Joffrey are on a par with NYC Ballet and American Ballet Theatre. They are completely sold out. Hope the weather is good. We're coming up on the anniversary of Irene, which kept us from going to our final performance last year. Sheesh, you'd think with the housing slump a roofer would be happy to have a big job. Do you have an Angie's List to check him out?

It's really wonderful that I don't have to think about syllabi and school starting. The sports teams are all here already and it won't be long before the fall invasion. I am happily free of those frenzied startups.

Valerie, that sounds like a tough hike. I would probably have injured myself.

Deb, he may have other jobs lined up, maybe too long a drive, other time committments etc .... who knows? if he's in business for himself he must have reasons. any number of things that might make them not want to take a particular job without actually saying so, because they think plain refusing looks bad. lots of times they bid very high or just don't follow up at all. I wish people would be more forthcoming but contractors don't seem to have that trait. we try to get 3 bids on a project. can't say we've always picked "right" but mostly we have. see if he'll supply references from previous jobs. we picked a bad contractor for our roof though, so be cautious. he seemed fine but was a jerk. do you have a state agency on line where you can check for current licenses and complaints?

most of our hike was a ride. we want to try it again when temps are lower so we're not feeling like we hit the wall before we even get to the trailhead. the hike itself is not as long as we thought after looking at some other trip reports. we should have rested, tanked up on fluids and continued. I think we were both pretty dry and that always makes you feel fatigued.
reminds me deb... make sure DH is getting enough fluids in. I think dehydration, loss of electrolytes that can cause leg cramping. do you have a bottle holder mounted on the bike frame? makes it easier to drink enough. 10 miles isn't enough generally to get "dry"
but alot of people, especially if they take diuretic meds for BP, can be on the 'dry" side before they even get on.
I've got some big bruises this morning but otherwise feel fine. just colorful.

Good morning,

I did the C25k run this morning, and after the warm up and first jogging part I realized I was doing Week 2 instead of 3 aarrgghh!!..I seem to have a mental block about completing week 3 for some reason.

Lynda, don't rub it in! I think about retiring every day and am counting down the months, etc.

Valerie, this roofer comes highly recommended.. he did 2 of my family member's houses, and they recommended him to others who have had nothing but good things to say about him. Maybe I am just used to them wanting to meet with the owners to do the estimate, so that they are sure of what you want. He didn't even ask if the roof had to be taken off, (it does because we have 3 on there now and that is the limit), I had to tell him that. DH said that he could probably tell when he looks at it and would figure that in the estimate. As for falling, glad you are only colorful and nothing serious happened. I fear that happening. I used to roller blade the same 10 mile trail we did with the bikes the other day, but the last time I did, I fell 4 times. That is when I decided that roller blading was no longer something I needed to do. It was strange that all of a sudden I couldn't stay up, because I used to do the 10 miles with no problems.

Josie, did you buy those large ear plugs yet?

Joan, how is the gym working out?

Off to get ready, take care....

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Valerie--

This morning I did the lower impact premix on Crossfire (56 min.).

What's the difference between week 2 and week 3, Deb? Okay, I won't provide any more cheerful commentary on being retired. Actually, I am pretty hard at work getting 3 lectures of about 20 pages each done. I try to write at least one page per day, even if it's a bit rough and must be revisited the next day. My office is in disarray with notecards everywhere, books open, a real mess, which is always the way it looks when I am writing.

The weather has been absolutely beautiful this week--cool nights, warm and sunny days. I hope this lasts into the fall.

Hey, Josie--did you ever manage to confront your co-worker?

Valerie, hope your next try on that trail goes better.
