Morning all,

Not much going on, very cold here. Right now it is 12 degrees.

Basically have "stuff" to do around here.

Stay warm,

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Turbo Barre (74 min.).

Deb, it's freezing here, too. I wouldn't mind so much if the wind didn't make it worse. What happened to your one month rotation? I thought you were going to start it over this week because of the snafus last week with the dogs.

Comfort meal tonight: First cosurse: Steamed pork bun slider with Kimchee ketchup, Chinese mustard and housemade pickles; Second course: Noodle bowl with housemade egg noodles, pork, and vegetables; Dessert: Sunshine pie with blood orange and grapefruit curd with citrus shortbread crust. I will have the first two courses and skip the dessert, or have a couple bites of DH's.

Went to see Young Adult yesterday. Dark comedy with Charlize Theron playing a woman who refuses to grow up. She just keeps doing these things that make you both cringe and laugh because she's so lacking in self-awareness. I'd give it a B- for content and an A for the acting.

Joan, let me know how that 3 month rotation works for you. I am thinking of starting it in February.

did turbo barre again yesterday, the short 52 min version, and then I did the ab part anyway so probably skipped about 5 minutes worth. yowzaa. that leg/knee lift to the rear and back and forth... this will be a looong time coming. those side hip muscles apparently don't exist because they're not used for anything else. don't get sore muscles because there are NO MUSCLES there. holding my leg up like that will be a very loong project.

went furniture shopping today. arghhhh. awful. everything looks the same.

I didn't get wo in Friday or Sat. because we had Elliot. Will still try to do something today. I have been working all day so I do need to take a break.

Garance Thanks for reminding me. I need to measure to see if this rotation works.

In addition to rotation I have been walking every day. Averaging only 1-2 miles instead of 3-4 but there isn't enough time.

Joan

Good morning all,

Not much new here, still trying to get some decent sleep. I can't blame the dogs anymore, it's me and my racing mind.

I hope everyone had a good weekend.

Take care,

Got more snow last night and between now and wed we will (maybe) getting a whole lot more. sometimes these are false alarms but this seems like it might happen. Wed it will get warmer and rain along with wind. likely low level flooding. can you spell "power out"? we will see. I need to get some shopping done today. hopefully this will get downgraded as time passes.

did not get a workout in yesterday. we wanted to ski today but the roads are already a mess and didn't feel up to the hassle as we will have a couple days of "hassle" coming anyway.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning i did LIC (51 min.). I know most (all?) of you don't do or like step, but I am actually getting a little bored with this one now that I know all the choreo. The only section I really enjoy is the tough one at the end before putting it all together and doing the blast. Once you master it, you get an idea of Cathe's genius with step. I loved her Rhythmic Step from years gone by.

Anyway, I was going to to do S & G, but it wouldn't play. "Loading....Loading...Loading...Disc Error." I have only done this one 3, maybe 4 times. Do you think they will replace it if I contact customer service? I've never had this problem before.

Not as cold here today, but it sounds like freezing rain for tomorrow. Ugh!

Still haven't decided whether to do the 3 month rotation. Once again dreading all that STS equipment to drag out. What I have most been enjoying is the relative ease of setting up for these workouts.

I had a disk replaced maybe a year ago because it wouldn't play.... no problem. they were very nice about it even though they could not find a record of me purchasing the disk from Cathe. It is an older one, and DH might have bought it somewhere else(??) as a gift. I didn't know. I bought a lot of stuff direct, so they were very pleasant and replaced it for me even without a proof. a very wise customer service move to not be too nit picky. Legs & glutes I think it was.

wow, I can't imagine remembering a step routine. I might as well try to fly a 747...its that impossible for me. I can't do a step routine even if I'm watching them do it. never been too coordinated that way.

Good morning all,

Class was nice, there were only 2 dogs there so we had a lot of attention. Graduation in 2 weeks, yippie! Not sure where we are going from there. The next level up starts at 8:30

Not sure if I can stay up that late.

It's cold and rainy, not pretty.

Valerie, did you lose power? I used to be pretty good with step, but that was before I saw Cathe's step workouts! I remember the first workout I bought from here was Cardio & Weights. No way could I do the step portion on that. I hated it, that and Imax2. I promptly sold it on Ebay. Then I bought Slow & Heavy and hated that one too, I had never done weights with that tempo. I kept it though, and now it is one of my favorites. Strange.

Garance, I am pretty sure that Cathe's Customer Service will tell you to clean the DVD, then try it again. If it doesn't work, they will probably replace it.

Hi to Joan, Josie, & Cathy,

Stay warm,

Morning, Deb.... great to get all the attention! I like yoga classes when there's only 2-3 or us the best. No yoga this morning. they follow the school district's lead. when they cancel classes there's no yoga.
We got some more snow. DH is shoveling right now. I'd help except he likes to play martyr and do it himself. so he can. he will take my car. Subarus are such good snow cars. he has a T corolla, nice little car but not great on snow. tomorrow is supposed to be the stormy day with more potential for power outs. he's off so no big deal. we did shopping etc yesterday so don't need to go anywhere. usually the main roads are fine... plowed/ sanded/ deiced/.... but getting to the freeway can be a challenge. this area does not get snow regularly so a lot of drivers are pathetic and dangerous. they try to drive way too fast for conditions and go careening all over the place.

Did AT yesterday. I like it but still need to pause briefly between some of the cardio segments when I get too winded. I modify when she does pushups, dips using the bench. my arms are too close enough together on the high step. I do reg pushups on the floor, and dips on a bench. Can't bring myself to buy a reg step bench for those few times.

I'm unable to memorize moves. each time is pretty much like the first time. I'm hopeless that way. never did step... I know my weak spots and don't waste energy struggling to learn something I can't learn.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did After Burn (54 min.).

I did contact customer service yesterday by e-mail, but haven't received a reply as yet. I have no idea how to clean something that does not look dirty.

It's much warmer here today--in the 40s and after a bit of snow overnight, it's supposed to rain this afternoon. Weird.

Deb, the Intensity series was like this one--I just kept doing it for about 6 mos. and I loved Cardio and Weights and Imax 2. I'd pulll them out again but I'm worried about impact. Maybe CW, but definitely not Imax 2 with those straddle taps and plie heel taps. Don't think I would be doing Boot Camp either.

I have a Honda CRV and no trouble whatsoever in even pretty deep snow or going up the hill to our house. Ages ago we had a Subaru but it only had front wheel drive and it was not all that great at times in the snow and ice. I'm sure they now have all-wheel drive.

ttfn

Taking a break from shoveling. DH came home early, roads are a mess & so they sent everyone home. no patients showing up anyway, cancelling appts. at least 15 inches of snow. tomorrow the big dump is coming along with wind. so I'm taking advantage of power and blabbing on while I can.

Yes, Subarus all have AWD. this is an 04, so not new but it is so much nicer than even a truck with 4WD, and we have had several of those. trucks are always light in the rear. AWD cars are more balanced and don't handle squirrelly like trucks can. smaller, more agile and handles so well. we have some winter tires that are a softer rubber that gives it better traction. I would not buy another car without AWD. I remember looking at the Hondas when we bought this car and I don't remember why we didn't pursue it. we looked at the T Rav4 also with the tire on the back... can't put a bike rack on it. I'm too short for a roof rack. funny, the little things that make the decisions.

Hope you all have better weather than we do right now... all the trees are loaded and drooping.

Good morning,

Up since 2:00 am ( not dogs fault this time), and could not get back to sleep. I am exhausted...

Ob/gyn apt this afternoon. Nothing much new to report.

Valerie, I hope you get through this storm, it doesn't look good on the news. We haven't heard from John's sister, we need to e-mail her and see how things are with them.

Garance, We had a wind storm last night, wow, unbeliveable. YOu could hear things flying around the street, I hope you don't get that.

Hi to Joan, Josie, & Cathy,

take care,

Still quiet this morning. We got the whole driveway and parking pad shoveled. also had to knock excess snow off net fencing. shoveled both decks. it was exhausting but I'm happy to
say I'm not too sore. left wrist and forearm a little but nothing significant. thank you Cathe.

Deb, this area is notorious for highly variable weather outcomes only a few miles apart. south of seattle didn't get any snow. we are north and got at least 15 inches. only 40 miles apart. today, the storm is supposed to hit further south. we are expecting some snow but not as much as we got yesterday which was not even predicted. it was falling as fast as I could shovel but all we were supposed to get were occasional snow showers. the next bad part is when this changes to rain thurs/friday and the rain melts all the low level snow causing flooding.

our street got plowed...we hired a private guy since we had a bad storm in 2008. road is snow packed but drivable. no need to go anywhere today so we will see what happens as the day goes on. Power hasn't even flickered tho a few thousand in the county were out as of newstime last night. DH needs breakfast, more later.

Deb, you could probably take a benadryl if you can't sleep. I wouldn't take one later than 2 though. even advil or tylenol. doesn't make you sleepy but if you have some annoying aches/ pains it quiets them down and sleep is easier. but we're all different. DH can eat breakfast and then go back to bed for an hour or two, or fall asleep in front of the wood stove. Me? not a chance in the world. Can't sleep sitting up or reclined. can't sleep with any noise, like the furnace.

MIL is doing well.... wants to go home cause she doesn't like the hospital food. Really, some things don't change. might have been discharged late yesterday or possibly this morning. haven't heard for sure.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Cardio Supersets (41 min.). I wanted to do AT, but my dvd player balked. I guess the problem is not the disks, but my dvd player, because I tried both AT and S & G on my Sony blu-ray, and they worked fine. Sooooo, it's time to get a new dvd player for my exercise TV. The old one, and it's at least 15 years old, is a Toshiba. Can't complain about it, since it's had a lot of wear.

Deb, the wind woke me up this morning too. Some kind of cold front coming in, I guess. Yesterday was in the 40s, but it sounds like it's going down today. Maybe you should ask for a prescription for something to help you sleep, at least for awhile. Have you stopped taking the benadryl? It sounded like that was helping you.

Your storm, Valerie, was on all the news this morning.

You know what? I am never going on a cruise.

Hi Ladies,

I rode on Saturday only. On Sunday we were ready to roll, but it started to rain and we ended up going to breakfast instead. I did spinning on Monday.

My DH and I went to see The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo. I liked the Swedish version better. We then decided to go to the casino and to play hooky on Tuesday. It was great!

We are planning on going salsa dancing tonight. I will call that my workout for the day ;)

Josie

I guess this is it on our "big storm". today has been nothing. I got tired of watching the endless TV coverage. people in most of the country must be laughing at what weather wimps we are. Yes, it's a bit messy and it was a lot of snow to shovel yesterday. areas south of here are getting today what we had yesterday. but it really is nothing compared to winter most places. everything is closed or cancelled.

Did Afterburn this morning. still can't do those traveling pushups very well.... subbed reg toe pushups the rest went pretty well. I go a little lighter on weight but felt much better about it this time. several things that I thought were hard the first time were fine.

I bought Gone With the Wind for DH for xmas. He'd never seen it. I loved the movie when I was a kid. I seem to remember some fuss about whether it was appropriate for teens... think I was 13 or so. I can't imagine what the concern was about. we watched half last night. acting is so much more subtle now but it still is a pretty good movie. they manage to capture what I imagine the time was like. somewhat romanticized view, for sure. but it's a movie not a documentary.

Linda, glad you are getting the disk issue resolved even if it means buying a new player. we've been thru a few.

Just bumping this week's thread to the top...someone tried to post on our last week's thread, and it went above this one. I can't read what they posted, the thread keeps jumping to the beginning...??

will post here in a few minutes...

Good morning all,

Is it only Thursday?

Had my yearly OB/GYN apt yesterday, nothing to report. He asked if anything was going on, and I mentioned the sleep issue. He told me to take Tylenol PM or Benadryl.. Really? He did not favor any of the prescription sleep aids, and I don't want to start with them either.

Valerie, is the snow going away yet? Cathe could make a good workout called ShovelMax. Glad to hear MIL is doing well.

Garance, I feel the same way about cruises. I went on one, and that was enough. Now that I saw what recently happened, it just tells me my decision was a right one. Scary stuff. DVD players are cheaper now than a new Cathe DVD!

Josie, sounds like you and your DH had a good time!

Off to get ready for another wonderful day!

Take care,

I'm posting now because things may get worse before they get better.

we are still getting light snow and it got quite cold. but a new weather system is moving in dumping freezing rain on top of everything. this has been not too uncomfortable because power is on for most people but an ice storm, well you all know what that does to power lines and tree branches.... the airport is closed. everyone else who can get away with closing is closed. semis rolling over all over, quite the mess.
so things will probably warm up by tomorrow but another day of confinement. DH already got a call and the clinic isn't even opening today, which is wonderful. he didn't have to work until afternoon but it's silly to drive when no patients will show up anyway. we are quite fortunate that the freezing rain hasn't gotten this far north yet so we will see how the morning progresses.
finished GWTW still a good movie. I don't like many old movies but this one is still good.
