Damage Control::Thrilling Thursday!!

Good morning everyone!!

Been MIA for a few days, just kind of chillaxin'...as the kids these days say :p

How is everyone? I need to go back and catch up with everyone since...Friday?? Yikes.

The truth is, I had a visit with my nurse last Friday and talked to her about getting back into a workout schedule, and the news wasn't as great as I would have liked. Apparently, because I now have this ilieostomy, I need to be incredibly careful, and possibly stay away from, lifting weights  The reason being that the ileostomy itself is essentially a hernia, according to the nurse, (which I don't think that's the case, technically, but this is the simplistic way she chose to explain it to me.) It makes sense...it's definitely a weakening in the abdominal wall. Anyway, lifting weights could cause it to actually herniate. She says I can do any kind of aerobics I like though...especially walking. Ugh. Do I need to tell you all how extremely bummed out about this I am? I doubt it.

So, open question to all you girlies...what do you think I can do to maintain strength over the next three months while I await my next surgery? Yoga? Kettlebells with a lighter bell, or do you think those are totally out? Seriously, I don't know what to think and would love some ideas. Maybe bodyweight exercises only? And if that's the case, any ideas on instructors to follow? Left to my own devices, I'll just be lost.

I am seeing my primary care this afternoon and will be asking him similar questions.

On another note, the kids went back to school on Monday after their 25 day Christmas break. Woohoo! However, they had a two hour delay that morning due to the weather. Then yesterday, school was canceled due to the weather. And guess what? I just got the call a half hour ago that there is yet another two hour delay this morning! Talk about an easy week to go back to!

Okay, think I yammered on long enough...am going to try to catch up and will be back with personals (hopefully) in a little while.

Jen

Hi Ladies!

Do you mind if I join your little thread? I was good all during christmas but now that its over, the cookies keeping popping into my mouth! I not even sure how it happens:p So before the scale creeps up, I need to stop it. The last thing I need is to be on a diet:confused: although....my mother always thinks Im on one.

Right now I am following FF rotation for Jan month. My UB is fried from yesterdays workout and today is cardio. Im hoping to fit it in but I have a few things to go to plus, I am working night shifts!

Jen** Im not sure that you could keep your strength up if you aren't doing exactly what you are doing now. I would use light weight/and or bodyweight to keep yourself "toned" but if you require surgery I would just worry about that for now. Muscles have a great memory and once you start lifting again, it won't be long and you will be lifting what you lifted before. When I was pregnant I stopped doing everything before I knew it, I was doing exactly what I did before.

BBL!

Good Morning Girls.

Wow, I slept until 7am this morning and when I woke up DS was at my bedroom door! Talk about over-sleeping!

Today's work out will be a run. I am not sure when I will do it but that's the plan. :)

Jen: Glad to see ya girl! I almost fell over when I saw that the thread had already been started this morning! :D Talk to your primary care doc about what kind of work outs to do. Seems to me that anything that's not too straining may be the way to go. Some yoga could be ok as long as it's not too strenuous. Light weights I could see being okay as well. Bodyweight exercises can be tough. I don't know that I'd go that direction neccessarily. I'm not a doc though so make sure you ask at your appt this week! Sounds like your kids are having an easy-breezy week! And 25 days off!? Holy cow! That's a long time! My son didn't have THAT much time off and thank goodness! :p

Jacque: LOL at your drive by comment from last night. Very funny. :p If I had chosen to wait and go to the Centergy class then that would not have happened. Oh well. I enjoyed the bells last night so it's all good. It just took a while to get motivated. Glad you got some 1RM's done. I hope you can finish 'em all. I still have no desire to even try it yet....

Ang: There is only 1 manmaker work out on the Empire State dvd but they have it in a 1x, 2x or 3x through premix. I did it 3x. It whooped me good in short time. :D The vodka I got is citron which is citrus flavor so I bought gingeral to mix it with. Not sure if it'll go but I'm gonna try it. It sure worked with the vodka you bought me! ;)

Laura: My DH could only WISH I was like you. If I am tired he don't get no work out, girl! LOL Hope you had fun last night. ;) Let us know how it if you try the F-factor diet.

Lori: Ofcourse you can join us. I think you just like to follow me around everywhere I go though. :p LOL Don't have to tell me about eating crap and gaining weight. I've already been there and done that and am currently struggling with getting rid of the damage. It's not terrible but I still want to lose it!!

Morning Ladies!!!

ahhhhhh ... WONDERFUL night last night! :D the "fun" w/o was more fun than I was expecting .. YOWZA!!! Count that up to an EXTRA calorie burn last night ;) ... annnnndddddd ... I zonked out and slept thru the entire night!!!:D:D:D finally!! I feel rested and full of energy today!!! YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAA!!!

Jen .. welcome back lady!!! I cant beleive you are feeling up to working out yet girl!! You really need to take it easy!! My advice would be first talk to your Dr. about what you can and can not do .. secondly LISTEN to him and DO what he says .. I know those of us who feel like if we are not exercising we are not ourselves kinda have a hard time listening when someone says NO exercise!! (errrr me especially) ... MHO would be walking even power walking ... I would not do any weight lifting .. maybe lighter weights w/higher reps (dr permitting) ... when I finally listened to my specialist about my knee ... I could not even do power walking :( .. I DID do Pilates and ab work .. surprisingly enough pilates will work the crap outta of your muscles w/o really straining or stretching them too far!!! After the allotted time I was released to do an recumbent bike ... which is a great w/o too .. maybe ask about that??? your body would be stabalized and really the work is all in the legs!!! You certainly dont want to overdo and really mess yourself up!!!!

Wendy .. LOL .. all of DH friends wishes their wives had my libido!! LOL DH said he was glad I finally got out of my 30's I like to have killed him!! :p I am just starting to ready the F-factor .. I of course skimmed thru it and it looks doable for me .. only thing it does have a lot of wheat products which I know I should do but dont really like .. ey .. will see .. like everything else I am sure I will use parts of it and make it my own!!:p

Lori .. welcome to our little group!!! To introduce myself .. I am Laura aka: Poochy ... live in AL .. work in a large utility company (in collections) and teach a fitness class after work!! I have no kids but two huge dogs that are my "babies" ... married for 22 years (to the same man .. LOL) .. I am an adrenaline junkie and love to travel and deep sea fish (gosh I sound like I am doing a personal ad ... JEESH!!!) Anyway .. welcome!! :)

Ang .. I love CSI too .. I hate TBL and it comes on at the same time!! But I do think this season is going to be good .. ya and the personalities seem much better this year!!!

Di .. have you got the pics of your grandbabies up yet??? I would love to see how they have grown!!

Jacque .. are you anywhere where all the mudslides and flooding is goign on?? Been hearing about it on the news???

EATS: 2 boiled eggs (whites only) - 1 orange // and tonights class is going to be a mish mosh of plyo work - lower body shaping using sliders - and matt work for the core!! (no pushups yet dr orders)

.. ok gotta jet .. paperwork calling my name (ugh) have a great day and great sweaty workouts!!!:D

Hey there lovely ladies !

Back to the 5 AM wake up and did 9 more STS 1RM exercises. Not sure about the 1.5 count on the shoulder presses? Anyone have a clue?

JEN ! - Good to see you back ! Just a quickie story (personal experience) that is one that may help you take the nurses's advice: I had 3 C-sections. Doc told me I had very strong abs while she was doing the surgeries. (not to toot my horn but for the story ;)). About 5 years after the last surgery I was playing volleyball, went to serve overhand (which I hit pretty hard) and tore the scarred tissue in my abdominal region. Can you say horrendous pain within about an hour. Went to the ER - had a stupid doc - that I had to tell my abs were swollen on one side. Anyway, a surgeon the next day told me it was torn abs. Now I have to say I know you have felt the effects of ab surgery, no coughing, sneezing, laughing, peeing, etc. for a while because it hurts? I think we use our abs way more than we give them credit for so you may want to be REALLY EASY with your workouts. Not wanting to pass on horror stories like others, but feel like the docs may be right in this case, no matter how much you want to be completely healed.

Will be waiting to see what you primary says today. And ITA with Lori about muscle memory and the fact that you are still young chickie ! Hope you get your break from little ones here pretty soon !:p

Lori - It has been nearly a year now if you remember the "Challengers" beginning of last year? Yes please join - good group here. So how's work and the DD doing lately? Still running nearly every day? FF rotations are great - I did Dec's but have gotten a slow start this month. Hoping STS will be here soon ! :p Good to see you again.

Wendy - LOL about DS waking you after Angie and Diana were talking about their boys not waking at all ! The gingerale sounds like it may work with the vodka, but if not, how about something like Fresca which is already citrusy? Yes, a CAB enabler at heart !

Thinking about the run that I didn't do last night may be on tap tonight. Need to remove the Xmas wrapping from behind the TM so could actually kill two birds with one workout !

OK - time to get this booty to work. Auditor on the premises today and he didn't send me the info ahead of time !

BB @ lunch ! Hey Laura, Angie, Diana and Shirl (I know I saw a Shirl post during the holidays - think it may have been CCPP weekend?).

Hey ladies!!

Just a "quickie" (a word that is apparently not in Laura's vocabulary;):D:cool:) to say thank you to all of you for your advice and kind words. I know you are all right in saying take it easy, and I appreciate that so much as it really helps me feel better and not so much like a slouch!

That being said, I actually picked up a Leslie Sansone walking dvd and popped that in this morning. (The garage is excruciatingly cold these days and I have NO motivation to get out there on my treadmill.) Anyway, it's supposedly 4 miles and includes some resistance band work at the end. I made it through two miles before I was totally wiped  Obviously, I'm not as recovered as I thought. However, it did feel good to do something and helped to improve my mood.

Gotta jet to the doc's, but will BBS to report.

Later gaters,

Jen

Woo Hoo ! Lunch time is here !

Grilled tilapia wrap (with baby spinach, avocado and a little dsg.). Yummy !

Laura - seems we were posting at the same time this AM. ;) So glad you got lost of sleep last night and just think of the calorie burn after your workout !

I'm about mid CA and no mudslides here. We weren't near any fires and that is what is causing them in CA. Haven't really had much rain - we could use more. So what sliders do you use in class? I'm deciding on whether to get some or use paper plates on my berber rug.

Jen - good to hear you only walked AND that you see healing takes more time and energy than you thought !? Yes it is hard to be somewhat stagnant, but you know how just a sore muscle needs to rest - imagine surgery. At least you stopped and didn't push it any farther. See how you feel tomorrow, you may just be more drained than you think. I pushed it with my first CS (just running around the house doing housework) and it set me back a couple days. And CS is minor compared to what you had done !

Will be back to see what the doc said.

Calling out to Diana < < < hey lady > > >. Hope you are OK ! You have usually popped in by now (at least lately. Maybe work has you popping in later now?)

Wendy - have you heard from Sunny lately?

Check things out later. Back to work for me.

Hey Gals! Thanks for the warm welcome...not that I expected anything different:) I like joining smaller thread b/c its easy to respond to everyone. When Im not responding, I don't feel like I am part of the "group". I am currently checking in to FF's rotation check in as well but thats just a monthly thing and will be over in no time.

Wendy** Yes! You got it! I looooooooove chasing you around;):p Ive actually been to NJ a couple of times, knocked on a few doors, couldn't find you so I flew home again:rolleyes::) My weight as been holding steady so I can't complain and I had lots of discipline during christmas but since christmas it seems like the leftover cookies are calling my name:eek: Oh well!

Jaqcue** DD as been doing pretty good, thanks for asking. She will be 13 in March and DS just turned 2 last Sunday. She as a boyfriend now:( and even though some parents may not agree with me, I let him come over sometimes b/c I would rather know where she is and what she is doing, then telling her she can't hang out with boys and then hanging out and doing things that I don't know she is doing. Atleast this way, I know where she is and I know what she is doing. Ha...they will probably be broke up in a couple days! LOL

Laura** Well...I can also give you a break down of my life (i always like to know peoples situation:D) I am 30, two kids, married for 7 yrs, 2 dogs, work and workout. Thats about it. There are days I could pull my hair out b/c I am being pulled in all different directions. It doesn't help that DS likes to be carried around the house so I have to do everything with one hand:mad:

I think thats it for personnals. When I got off of work today I went right to the dentist, didn't get out of there till 10, then went to bed and only slept for 40 mins:( Then I had DS's apt at 2:20 went there (where he had a temper tantrum) came home and took a 30 mins nap....then I got my workout in. Managed to do Imax 3 intervals 1-7. Good enough for me on a day where time wasn't on my side. Tomorrow I am having DS b-day party so I need to have some sleep when I get off of work and hoping to get a workout in before the party. I may be being to ambitious though:)

Lori:)

Lori - We are small enough to keep up, yes. And have those that pop in when they can. (Sometimes we worry, but so far they are gone because they are sooooo busy !) LOL about looking for Wendy. :p

Good to hear DD is doing better. ITA about knowing what teens are up to and the fact they will probably not be together too long. And as always, you'll hear differing opinions but you know your daughter and make choices you think are right.

Wow the little guy is growing quickly too, huh? And before you know it he won't come to you when you call so enjoy it. You know how quickly they grow ! Still working all those evening shifts, huh? Has worked settled down at all or still have all the part timers?

TTFN . . .

Jacque** There are still lots of part timers here...and me! Things are changing now though. We aren't very busy (most of our flights come from the U.S and with the way the economy is people aren't flying that much) so it looks like I am going to be working alot of day shifts...good and bad. I like nights b/c it gets me out of the house plus I get to spend more time with DS. When I work day shifts I won't see him 5 days one week and then 2 the next. Im hoping it won't be like it for very long.
I felt bad for DD today. Her father (real tool) called her and told her that he was buying her a lulu lemon sweater for christmas and 2 other things. She got her parcel today! and there was only one thing in there, not wrapped, price still on it and it wasn't even what he told her he was getting. It was a bench sweater (still expensive) but it was ugly enough that we figure they got it on sale. I asked her if she liked it and she just shrugged her shoulders. Later she said, " I probably won't wear it very much cause its not me". He gave up his rights and let DH adopt her a while ago so he doesn't pay child support, and only manages to spend $100 on her for christmas and can't even get it here in time. I think he is already walking on thin ice b/c he was home this past summer (with his kids and wife) and didn't come to see her.

Anywayyyyyyyyyyy...didn't mean to talk your ear off:rolleyes:

Lori:)

Hey Girls.

Just a quickie to say that I got in 3.40 miles with Grace today. I wanted to to do more but it just didn't happen. Oh well. I'm planning for 6 tmrw or saturday. :)

I'll catch up with personals in the morning.

G'night!

Heya girls

Mrs. late poster here again. LOL! I was hoping to get here sooner since I had the day at home but got busy as heck and the phone wouldn't stop ringing. I slept in until 10:30 and only got up then b/c DH called. Would you believe though that I was dreaming that I was on an airplane heading toward the Cathe RT??? Great dreams shouldn't be interrupted!

I did 10 more 1RMs today along with CC#1. It was an 80 min. w/o, which was longer than I wanted, but who can say NO to Sean??? Thankfully my appetite has not reared it's ugly head today and the eats have been pretty good. I think probably b/c I have been so busy.

Oh, and I got on the scale first thing this moring and I am the exact same weight as I was at the beginning of December so I am thrilled about that.:D

Jen - Hey girl! Glad to hear from you. Wow! Your kids had a long time off......yikes! *lol*
I have to agree with the other girls here....ya don't want to push it too much. Let your body heal and then you will have the time to get back up and at em'. Maybe some light elliptical workouts or something like similar that is non-impact? Don't worry about the weights right now. You'll get there.;) Your body is more interested in healing itself than it is in building muscle or losing fat. Let the body do what it needs to do....and then let it do what it wants to do. Be patient....easier said than done I know, but you certainly don't want to go backwards. Don't be too hard on yourself (mentally, I mean). We all know you want to kick a$$. You won't lose yourself in this process, and we'll still be there when you need the kick in the pants to get things done. Just let it rest a while longer, OK? (((hugs)))

Lori - Welcome aboard! It's nice to see a fresh face.:)
So you work night shifts? Yikes!! I did that a couple of times at the hospital and it messed me all up. I was never on a MN rotation so I would just fill in every now and then. I'm sure it's different when you are used to it.
Wow! It sounds like you have your hands full with a toddler and a teenager. My hats off to you!!
Just a little info on me......I have 2 sons, 14 and 11, so I can feel half your pain. *lol* I also work part time as a bookkeeper for a trucking company that my DH and I own and run. I am a nurse but do not work as an RN at present. I have a spoiled beagle pup and love to go camping in the summer. I live in Michigan and am just counting down the days until spring. I'm a NASCAR fan and am also waiting for the Daytona 500 to kick off the season in February. Can ya tell I've got a bit of cabin fever going on???:p

Wendy - Isn't the extra sleep awesome??? We must've needed it huh?
Is the UV Blue gone?? Did you mix it with ginger ale? Hmmmm - interesting. How'd it taste?

Laura - *lol* NCIS, not CSI....although I like that one too. We like the humor in NCIS. I finally got over the Mark Harmon not being Ted Bundy character.....remember when he played that role?? That just creeped me out. But I can watch him now and NOT make the connection....took me a while though.
So, ya rested and ready for the weekend??? Any big sporting events on the calander for you?

Jacque - I'm confused about the 1.5 shoulder press too. I just did the regular sh. press for that.
Hmmmmm - fresca with vodka sounds great. I like the way you think!! BTW, I got the CABber road trippers some UV blue vodka to mix with sprite and....mmmmm mmmmm mmmmm. It is my CAB of choice. I just HAD to share it with my w/o buddies when I met them in person.;) You'll have to try it if you get a chance......or come to a RT and I'll buy you a bottle....how's that??
Good luck with the auditor.

No Venuto book in the mailbox today......maybe tomorrow.

Check ya'll later girls

Angie
